NS in Malaysia

We have all heard that Malaysia has started their NS recently. As such, I was curious about how it was conducted.
To my surprise, it was a joke. As seen on TV, the training are conducted in resorts with 6 meals thrown in. Furthermore the traning sounds more like OBS which took three months. With the blue uniform and the barber usng scissors to trim the hair
, boy am I glad that I did mine in Singapore as it looks more like a boy scouts camp in Malaysia.
No offence, do they really need it as the money could be better used in helping their people

ehz...cannot compare lahz.......our ns is different from them......we do ns to serve the country Eg.soldiers,policemen,civil defence force.While their Ns is 4 Racial bonding........it has practically nothing to do wif military......they do not in clude their so called NSmen in their military strength......while we are military personels when we r enlisted.....u knoe...no diff from a regular...we must fight if a war breaks out....while they don't....coz their NS is not the same a our country.

What bonding can they have with the TV showing only mainly Chinese attending the camp. I think that they are trying to send a message.

many still seem to be sticking to their own kind... but maybe its cos its just the first week... should give it more time... -

coz if u watch malaysian channel, there show alot malays getting their hair shaved also...

apparently inadequate informations on sg papers leads to alot of sarcastic comments..
how about checking out the msia papers and see what their NS is all about? -
I think I need to clarify some points.
- First of all, I am not saying that their NS is no good but I am just wondering if it is neccessary to the country as huge cost are incurred to support the program which can be put to better use. Furthermore, it is a lottery system whereby not everyone will attend, if that is the case, why not do it at school level.
- Secondly there are rumours (some truth in it) that the Chinese will boycott the program by buying their way out so that is why I believe that they might be sending out a message that it is not true by showcasing many chinese on the media.
- Thirdly I am not bashing or critising our neighbours but just concern as I have also ties in Malaysia like most Singaporeans do. Our neighbours tend to have projects or programs that cost a lot and have big hype in the begining and then it just die down. -

the funny thing was, when the news presenter was presenting... at the background there was this girl hugging a teddy bear!
anyway... i don't think they should call it NS... in what way are they offering services to the nation?

if sg ns really that great as said, why do we still need to pay so much for gurkha soldier at all checkpoints? -
