Actually a better term to describe it would be 'summer camp'. As in the Straits Times dated 17th Feb 2004.Originally posted by silkmagic:boy am I glad that I did mine in Singapore as it looks more like a boy scouts camp in Malaysia.
X2. I say give them the space. Its not that different if its ur 1st few days in NS(Singapore).Originally posted by CX:many still seem to be sticking to their own kind... but maybe its cos its just the first week... should give it more time...
this shows there r still many sohais out there...know lil bit but talk loud loud... u c..where to hide ur face now??Originally posted by silkmagic:We have all heard that Malaysia has started their NS recently. As such, I was curious about how it was conducted.
To my surprise, it was a joke. As seen on TV, the training are conducted in resorts with 6 meals thrown in. Furthermore the traning sounds more like OBS which took three months. With the blue uniform and the barber usng scissors to trim the hair , boy am I glad that I did mine in Singapore as it looks more like a boy scouts camp in Malaysia.
No offence, do they really need it as the money could be better used in helping their people
no leh... its a much smaller country so a lot of my j.c frens enlisted with me...Originally posted by ditzy:X2. I say give them the space. Its not that different if its ur 1st few days in NS(Singapore).
probably u didnt get enough information from tv..Originally posted by silkmagic:What bonding can they have with the TV showing only mainly Chinese attending the camp. I think that they are trying to send a message.
u trying to deny wat u said..u were laughing all de way in ur 1st post....let me answer all ur doubtOriginally posted by silkmagic:I think I need to clarify some points.
- First of all, I am not saying that their NS is no good but I am just wondering if it is neccessary to the country as huge cost are incurred to support the program which can be put to better use. Furthermore, it is a lottery system whereby not everyone will attend, if that is the case, why not do it at school level.
- Secondly there are rumours (some truth in it) that the Chinese will boycott the program by buying their way out so that is why I believe that they might be sending out a message that it is not true by showcasing many chinese on the media.
- Thirdly I am not bashing or critising our neighbours but just concern as I have also ties in Malaysia like most Singaporeans do. Our neighbours tend to have projects or programs that cost a lot and have big hype in the begining and then it just die down.
If people cannot take a joke, then they should forget about living. What I am saying is that I am amused by their NS and you can't blame me if I am a bubbly person.Originally posted by e_ti:u trying to deny wat u said..u were laughing all de way in ur 1st post....let me answer all ur doubt

Secondly there are people who actually buys their way out of it. Even in Singapore, we have people who goes to see specialist to get themselves out of NS.
Their Hollywood project which is a flop.

if now, sg and msia gets into a war..do u really think sg has advantage over msia just becoz sg has comprehensive NS training program? be realistic and sensible..Originally posted by kopiosatu:the funny thing was, when the news presenter was presenting... at the background there was this girl hugging a teddy bear!
anyway... i don't think they should call it NS... in what way are they offering services to the nation?
can't compare it to Singapore though... we started our NS to defend the country... i'd be worried if they started military NS over there
and so what if i haven't? is there something wrong with voicing my ignorant opinion here?Originally posted by e_ti:dont put words into other ppl;s mouth all rite?
