  Let me think over this answer again... It also depends on the kind of tone, but I should think that if girls truly think that a guy is cute, as in that good-looking type, they wouldn't tell the guy directly face-to-face, unless they are flirting...

Mostly, other factors such as personality, ahh, financial-wise, body type etc. will also influence the liking, but most gals (I think) would prefer more mature-looking guys because they seem to be able to protect them better, you know? And people might mistaken them for sisters and brothers when they go out; the gal might not like it.
