Approaching a girl

(this thread is basically directed at females because I need to know how females react in such a case)
Hi,
Now, there's this girl at one particular MRT station I'm really impressed with and I see her almost everyday. She sees me too, but basically, I'm just one of the many people she just casually glances at etc.
I'm getting more interested in her with each passing day until I now realize that there's no choice but to walk up to her and ask for her phone number.
In such a case, how will the average Singaporean girl feel? I know in Western countries, this is nothing...but Singapore is still pretty conservative by current standards.
Furthermore, she's a down-to-earth and well-behaved girl from what I've found out, not some kind of gangster girl. This makes it even harder.
I'm not scared of approaching her, but I'm scared of freaking her out!
If she freaks out, there goes my chances.
So, from a female's point of view, how will a well-behaved and decent 19-year old college student feel(that's her)?

Almost all the girls i spoke to all said they reject guys almost 9/10 times...

Most of the pple on my msn list are girls..

Anyway, just make sure u are dressed as presentable and neat...
I mean , if the girl looks decent...
If the girl dresses like those hip hop..party... , then i guess you dressing should not "clash" in terms of theme..
Anyway, you might wanna try striking up a conversation before going in for da kill... -

Dun straight away get the phone number from her lah ...
have a casual conversation with her first ... make her comfortable first is the most impt thing ...
if the girl give you her number when you asked then 4get abt this girl man ... she might also do the same to any tom, dick and harry ...
therefore just relax and have some conversation and decent girl dun anyhow give phone number to strangers.
how she know whether you are the BAD BOY on the block ....
so step by step ... afterall you see her almost everyday wat ... hahaha ... -

Juz act like she's a neighbour, smile abit 1st.
See if she "knows" u. If she acknowledges u, DON'T approach her as yet. The next time u see her again, smile MORE. 
After a few more times.. more familiar den u approach.
U can try going up to her & say hi.. ask her if she lives ard ur estate. Before dat, check the time for the next train approaching. Nothing longer den 2 mins in case if she doesn't respond, u can still save urself (& her) frm all awkwardness.
U don't haf to get her number so fast. Ask for an email or msn wadever. More of a subtle approach as not to freak her out. Gd luck! -

Thanks for your advice! Someone suggested that I shouldn't get the phone number from her straight away, and ask for the MSN/e-mail/friendster instead. But personally, asking for such things from a stranger seems pretty dull and kind of...nerdy indeed.
My plan is :
----------------------------------------
-Walk up to her when there's not much folks around the station
(this way, there will be less people and she won't feel so embarrased and think that everyone is looking at her; thus, she won't get so freaked out)
-Then, I will walk up to her, take out my handphone in front of her casually and strike up a conversation that goes :
Me : Well Miss...this is a handphone...and...I'm going to use it to get your number. Ummm...what's your number, if you don't mind?
If she gets shocked and such, I will add in :
Me : Don't worry, though. I'm not a bad guy or anything...because bad guys...they usually don't look so good or neat, like me. Besides, I won the most Well-Behaved Boy Award last year.
If she hesistates, then I will say :
Me : Plus, this is the last few times I'm using this station and as you can see, I'm kind of impressed by your pretty face and style. So...?

What do you guys think? I didn't spend nights to write this script or anything. It just came out casually from my mind.
The other thing is, maybe it's because of the way I dress and carry myself etc....the very first few days she saw me at the station, she did look at me several times, but all I did was to ignore all eye contact with her and pretend to be cool about it. This continued on, even until today, and she's "totally cool and ruthless" about it too.

I don't have the looks of say...ummm...Takeshi Kaneshiro(wrong spelling!) or the physical build of a Western movie star, but I do look a lot better than 17 out of 20 guys you see on the street.
This might give me some added advantage, but my main problem is whether she will freak out if some stranger, even a good-looking/familiar one, just walk up to her out of the blue.
And regarding making eye contact and smiling at her, I myself will get freak out if any girl does that! I would think they're insane! Or am I wrong?
(taking into account that on the surface, I have always avoided eye contact with her and pretended to be cool about things)

Because i had such an experience recently.Even though i manage to catch her eye contact and chatted for ard 30mins,she still was not willing to give me her contact number.
I think girls would still treat you as a stranger because they do not kwow you enough to know who excatly are you.
Getting email would be a better way as they would not hestitate to give an email as there is no way you could haress thewith an email. -

u never try u never knw...but if u do try..make sure u keep it simple, interestin 2 catch her attention, n appear confident (dun stutter).. n if ur successful, u wont brag bout it rite? cos guys that brag about it r usually losers who got rejected n are dreaming their impossible dreams

PLEASE do not whip out your hp and wave it in the girl's face saying your not a bad guy. I've had guys do that so many times and honestly it's very irritating. Pick up lines are awful too. I suggest what everyone has, that is to make eye contact and smile and see what happends from there. good luck

Hmmm....I can imagine myself making eye contact with her, but no smiles for the initial stages, though.
But the issue is : if you make eye contact with a girl, wouldn't she get freaked out?
Like, she would think "Huh? Why does he keep looking at me?"
And within her, she would have a vague conception that I'm a pervert or some guy with naughty ideas or something...and that's not good for me.
Don't girls(especially the decent ones) feel this way when a guy make consistent eye contact with them?
Not to mention the smiling part. Need more opinions, though.
Secondly, about asking for e-mail/MSN. Assume that she has an e-mail address(99.9% likely), what do I even talk about? That's what I don't like about e-mails, for they're pretty emotionless and I find it hard to express anything through e-mail.
I also need some tips to improve *credibility* so that she doesn't freak out or think that I'm a bad guy.

i had girls look at me be4 lol in the bus. but be4 i can look back she so quickly turned away.. then i look someone where else again then she look at me........ then i quickly turn back den managed to get eye contact den she turn her face away so fast like she see ghost or something. where got time to make eye contact...
