I believe no matter whether are u a poly grad, JC grad or an ITE grad, there is a place in society for u. But if you are going to think in a manner like 'sim wong hoo was from poly & look where he is now?' or 'even if u have masters, so wat?', u are not being fully aware about this society.
U got to agree that a JC grad going to a university will have more opportunities in life and a normal poly graduate. The social hierachy was designed this way so that the JC grads are the elites. Whereby the poly is there primarily to give other brands of students an opportunity in life.
In this society where political correctness is much more important than ignorance, no one would like to highlight the existence of this awful hierachy. But if u are to dismiss this hierachy, you are being myopic.
Im not trying to say the poly system produces inferior students. I would disagree with myself if i have made such a statement. To highlight the point on incentives. ask urself why the majority of poly students with a diploma recieve a lower starting pay as compared to a university grad. Why?
To paint a picture of the hierachy, ask urself why is there pre-university seminar and Temasek seminar for pre-university students and not poly students, why majority of the pre-u students make it into the university under the system and not poly students? Why pre-u students are opened to more opportunites in securing a study-award than any poly graduate making into the university?
Like it or not, different incentives and hierachy orders are will bolted into our society. It is the unevitable effect of a meritocratic society.
Although there are high flyers whom prefer to take the poly route, u got to agree that the majority of the poly students do not meet the minimum citeria for a pre-university education. In another words, pre-u students in average score better than the average poly students. If there is an equal opportunity for both students ceteris paribus, is it fair for jc students?
There are inspirational stories about Sim Wong Hoo whom is worth taking note off. He will be a inspirational figure for all poly grads to know that as long as you work hard, u have a chance to be successful. In order words, there are opportunities for poly grads out there too. Inspirational it may be, do not allow such thoughts to fool u into thinking that 1) JC students are inferior, 2) so what if you go JC. The fact that there are not many sim wong hoo proves that the thoughts are stupid.
No point talking about Sim Wong Hoo and i counter with a Lee Hsien Loong. To effectively make a comparison, who look at the majority and the average of each lot. Like it or not, average University grads will recieve higher pay and better promotion citerias than average poly grads. Who make up most of the university grads? The JC students of course.
Dont be fooled into saying 'so what if you have a master degree'. You gave a possible scenario of this worker whom has a master degree working for a O level grad. Nice scenario to paint ur point, but how true is this? How many of such scenario u can find as compared to the opposite. If master degree is a so what? Are u being unfair to those whom spent so much of their time studying, trying to earn a future?
I know there are people out there whom are willing to tear my argument down. I know i have touched on a sensitive issue. But if u touch ur heart and open up ur eyes, that is the awful truth.
