Underwater World Singapore to close on June 26 with lease ending; public to enjoy lower ticket prices from June 7
Underwater World Singapore will be closing on June 26, it announced on Monday (June 6), as the lease for the premises at Sentosa expires in less than two years.
The aquarium, run by Haw Par Corporation, has found a home for its vulnerable or endangered marine animals.
"After nearly a year reviewing suitable facilities, we found a home for our pink dolphins, fur seals and otters," a Haw Par spokesman said.
They were moved to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, China, after approval by authorities in Singapore and China.
The aquarium will mark its closing with a month of charity this month. It will give beneficiaries from charities it has worked with free admissions to the attraction.
It will also be lowering ticket prices for all to its 1991 opening price from Tuesday (June 7).
"Underwater World Singapore invites everyone to revisit family memories at UWS at its 1991 Opening Ticket Price of $9 per adult and $5 per child," it said.
Its current ticket prices are $29.90 for adults and $20.90 for children.
The Sentosa attraction is 25 years old this year and faces competition from the new SEA Aquarium and Universal Studios.
More than 30 million visitors have visited in that time, said the spokesman.
The attraction is best known for its 83m underwater tunnel, where visitors can view sharks, rays and colourful reef fishes swimming just above their heads and around them.
Underwater Santa and the Underwater God of Fortune will be making daily appearances at the tunnel to bid visitors farewell, Haw Par said.

Was there yesterday for the first and last time.
What I am wondering is will the attraction be redeveloped or conserved?This is beacause the old monorail used to stopped at this place but with Underwater World Singapore closing,very likely that it will be demolished and future genrations would not even know that this place used to exist

today i was up at 8am at the cable car station
then got two aunties one uncle ask me where is the UWS
i pointed them across the road
then i am like wtf its 8am only UWS open at 10am
then already got short queue at the ticket counter but no staff yet of si course

Gah missed this due to poor planning on my part. Was under a mistaken impression that Underwater World closes end of the month, but didn't check to see that the last day is on the 26th. Had plans to go check it out with a friend on the 27th :(
