Haze in #Singapore at unhealthy levels as 3-hour PSI reading hits 102 at 4pm.
wow
sigh....bo bian. This is now a norm in our lives.....
the heavy rain this afternoon has washed away some haze
PSI eased a little
This year is expected to be a hot season. More sun than rain. I hope the haze will not get too worse like during 2013 where the PSI goes up to 300-400.
haze is not caused by "more sun than rain"
Drier and hotter months ahead with higher risk of transboundary haze
There are drier and warmer months ahead for the republic due to the prevailing El Nino weather phenomenon, which the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said would also increase the risk of transboundary haze.
"We may see an escalation of hotspot activities, particularly in the fire prone provinces in Sumatra and Kalimantan," the MSS said in a media release on Friday.
It said sporadic hotspots from forest and plantation fires, with localised smoke plumes, had been observed in Sumatra in recent days, but the impact of the smoke haze on the republic would depend on factors such as the proximity and extent of the fires, the strength and direction of the prevailing winds, and the incidence and amount of rain.
The meteorological service said most models from major global climate centres show a high likelihood of the tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures continuing to warm over the coming months to reach strong El Nino levels.

Slight haze due to smoke from fires in Sumatra: NEA
SINGAPORE: The slightly hazy situation in Singapore on Wednesday afternoon (Aug 19) is due to "smoke haze from fires in Sumatra being blown in by the prevailing south-southwesterly winds," said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in an advisory.
Members of the public reported hazy skies in areas such as Jurong, Buona Vista and Beach Road.
At 7pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index or PSI, was 62-68 - within the Moderate Range, NEA added.
According to NEA, smoke plumes from hotspots in central and southern Sumatra have been observed in the past few days, with 116 and 42 hotspots detected in Sumatra on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
Just twelve hotspots were observed on Wednesday, but NEA said this is due to the "partial satellite pass".
"Occasional hazy conditions may persist overnight and tomorrow," NEA stated, adding that "everyone can continue with normal activities".
