normally its diesel mix with kerosene. petrol with kerosene dun work well
korosene is heavily subsidise for household usage
many drivers siphon fuel to sell.

Ok...however if you come across small stalls by the road side selling bottles filled with bensin in the ulu areas where there are no petrol stations around...don't buy it...I can guarantee you its a mixture of bensin and kerosene. You should travel more in Java then you will know what I mean. My advise, its best not to let the locals know you are a foreigner as a traveller or as a businessman, they will try to hustle your money. You have to learn to speak like the Indonesians and learn Javanese will really helps you alot bro.
u still see such stalls even in jkt.
most diesel colour is light yellow.

There are plenty of ulu areas in Java or sumatra or in other province eventhough after 22 years it will change much..it will almost the same. I've travel overland in Sumatra too...cross the straits from Java to South Sumatra on a ferry...during the ferry crossing I could see the anak krakratau volcano. From South Sumatra in Tanjong Karang town in Jambi province all the way to Dumai in Riau province...along the way I stopped over like in Palembang. I travelled by van in a convoy which is normal for security reason. From Dumai, took a boat down to Tanjong Balai then to Batam.
