I noticed, all my trips to NTUC are like this:
*I put my groceries on the conveyor belt counter*
*NTUC auntie begin to scan items*
NTUC auntie finally open her mouth and uttered, "member?"
*I shook my head and give cash to her*
*NTUC auntie collect my cash and give back me change*
*I exit*
No "good morning", no "good afternoon". No smile. No thanks. No "have a nice day". Anyone who was not served by a robot? Anyone who was served by a living, breathing human being at NTUC? Please feedback your own experiences.
Seems like real that robots are beginning to take over menial jobs. So life-like the robots are at NTUC...
no idea but you could take the initiative to ask... might be a fresh change to her routine?

wait she law-lee-law-saw about her sad stories how?
It could be that cashier job is monotonous but at least it keeps people employed, other supermarts are using system that could ownself checkout your items and make payments.

Tt day, i juz conveniently use it to seperate my stuff fr the person in front of me n was given the 'y u touch the stand look?' Cashier continue to use the paper roll to stop the conveyor belt from moving n obviously took back the stand...

Just one word 'Zao'? So bo sim, half-hearted.
NTUC should teach all their cashier aunties to greet customer before scanning items: (If non-chinese, greet in English)
"Xian Sheng/Xiao Jie/Nu Shi, zao shang hao/shang wu hao/wan shang hao! Huan yin lai dao NTUC cao shi!"
"Sir/Miss/Mdm, a very good morning/afternoon/evening to you! Welcome to NTUC supermarket!"
After scanning items, NTUC aunties must greet:
"Qing wen, ning shi hui yuan ma?"
"Please let me know are you an NTUC member?"
After I replied, NTUC aunties must greet & collect cash with BOTH hands for courtesy sake:
"Xie xie, zhong gong shi $__.__. Qing fu $__.__"
"Thank you, the total would be $__.__. Please pay."
After NTUC aunties returned my change with BOTH hands, she must greet:
"Xie xie dao NTUC cao shi go wu, qing xia chi zai lai! Zhu ning you ge mei hao de yi tian!"
"Thank you for shopping at NTUC! Please come back again! Have a nice day!"
Do not be like MRT staffs at MRT station control or MRT sales offices, cannot greet passengers as forgotten manners. Even greetings like "Have a nice day" are automated pre-recorded message. MRT staffs' faces are totally expressionless, cannot smile, cannot talk. Totally shake-head whenever I go top up my elinkz. Am I interacting with a human being?
i rather they talk less and hurry up with the scanning and packing of the items

It doesn't take long to greet customer. Basic courtesy. I'm not asking NTUC aunties to chit chat or gossip with customers.

I've been in customer service before. It is not impossible, it's a matter of whether one wishes to put in the effort or not.

As long as they are doing their work not giving prob to customers, it is fine. They better than PAP TOWN COUNCILS CLEANERS WHO ARE PAID BUT DON'T DO THEIR JOBS. MOREOVER PAP TOWN COUNCILS INCREASED CONSERVANCY YET continue NO CLEANING FOR RESIDENTS. CHEAT! No residents follow lee hsien loong's style to sue town councils.
Poor auntys are doing their job. Imagine seeing many of the sour faced people day after day, sooner or later one would be like them too.
