i was born into muslim family and brought up the muslim way. but now, i have my own mind as an adult and im free to make decisions for myself. im not coverting to any religion. im not sure how its done, but my friend said she has colleagues who was muslims and converted to christian. i just wanted to officially declare that im a freethinking agnostic atheist. no religion, no god.
i dont think i should explain why i wanted to or why have i stopped believing. cuz all i need now is an answer to my question. not any preachings from believers. so please dont tell im goin to hell or whatever. no one decides im going to hell or heaven.
You just re-register your Identify Card (IC) to change your religion status and maybe inform MUIS your decision, that should do. Otherwise what more you need to do?
Re-register IC? IC only states race, not religion. And any idea what muis will do? Heard they want you to attend counselling session
Sorry, what I mean is you just update ICA about your status and in case you need to change your 'muslim' name, then your IC need to re-register : http://www.ica.gov.sg/nric/faq/FAQ_Website.htm
And for MUIS, this is to avoid trouble like when you are marry or if one day you 'left' this world, you have written proof and better choice, but still you can just contact them for enquires without have to physical go there.
-- Cheers --
1. tapau authentic char siew rice
2. go MUIS
3. eat char siew rice in front of them
4. tell them you are no longer practicing muslim so they have to stone you (but dont worry, they cant as civil law takes precedence in Singapore)
plus
free thinker is not atheism
Atheism itself is a religion in its own right. Atheists believe(faith) that there is no GOD. Just as other religion try to convert non-believers to their faith, atheists try to convert others to their belief that there is no GOD
free thinkers on the other hand are just undecided, to them, there may be or may not be a GOD, they just dont give a dam
so are you a free thinker or are you thinking of converting to atheism?
Yeah you have the right to choose to believe in watever religion, but normally being born in a muslim family i know is really(seriously) hard to break away from their typical mindset- you must have alot courage to face your family. But does it really makes a different to change the religion status? I am a buddhist but i actually did not practice buddhism that much...haha

unfortunately we are all born into families and societies where there are many others around, and they think differently from us as we from them.
Legally there is nothing much to your religion in Singapore, what is important is your muslim family and your islamic society. If they allow you to go, you go. If they don't, what is the consequence? From the little I know about muslim society, when you are born a muslim, you are muslim for life. This is not something non muslim can advise.
May be you can share with us what your family or your relatives think of your idea.
Good luck.
What's the point?

Just want to ask, if I:
- don't feel like being part of any religion group
- don't like to pray to any specific god
- yet believe in and respect supernaturals, destiny, higher power and deities...etc.
What am I? Not free thinker, right? What's that proper English word that describe me?

digimonfan2008:
the proper word in the English language.. probably is 'theist'?
A theist may or may not be religious (in the above sense) and may believe in one God or many.
There you go.
Also, if you like the supernatural, send me a PM. moreso if ur into stuff like astral projection, lucid dreaming and stuff :D

You are like å”å, who “ 敬鬼神而远之 ”。 He didn't say if he believes in supernatural or deities, but keep a distance, far far away.
you are you, don't need to belong to any category of thinkers or no brainers. If you want a word to describe you, how about " a good friend", " a filial child " or even "patriat'? work on that you will find life more fulfilling.

I need to write on job application forms.

Free thinker is the common thing job applicants put, if they do not have any religion. But it doesn't matter, unless you are applying to work in religious organizations.

I want to be specific AND I do believe in higher power, deities, ghosts, destiny and the unseen... though I've not seen ghost before. I do draw tarot cards when in need, practice purple star to see my fate & yearly luck.

Ahh purple star, the leader of all stars, invented by LÜ dong bin.
why is this sidetracking into a religion debate?
So did you manage to denouce Islam? I am also trying to do the same. Called Muis and was told to attend a class I told them what is the next step and they said nothing but contact muis again. Nothing after that.
