good afternoon.
I am 20 years old korean studying business.
I had a chance to read lky's book 'from the third world to the first'
(not sure if the name is correct) and found singapore very interesting!
So last winter, i visited singapore and i really enjoyed your culture and wondered
if there's a way possible for me to study there. So i checked if there's any local schools
affiliated with mine but it was poly and SIM. Well.. i don't really know whether poly and
private schools are good or not but honestly if possible i would like to study in local uni.
So..im just wondering if you guys have any foreigners studying in singapore as a
full time program student who can share their experiences..how they feel living in
singapore..and ect.. I've of course
checked websites of local schools and read their criterion. I need sat and high school
gpa, ec..ect. i'm working on with SAT but high school gpa is already thing of a past i
can't change.. well in korea..universities dont really care about gpa..rather they care
about csat(it's like a level). I personally think that nation wide test like csat is more
standard than high school gpa..but i'm not sure if sg schools will think the same..
anyhow..that was a long story... can you give me some help? Thank you :)
Hello
Hey! :) I am a final year student from the National university of Singapore (NUS). I was Was Nanyang Polytechnic, worked really hard and finally got into a local university. I also have a Korean boyfriend. Here is my advice :)
Korean culture is relatively similar to Singapore, but in my opinion, more conservative. Korean food is really expensive in Singapore! Haha. You will definitely miss Korean food as it is not easy to find authentic Korean food in Singapore.
It is not easy to get into a local university (even Singaporeans have difficulties getting into NUS, NTU or SMU. ) If you are considering a private uni, you might as well study well in Korea and get into a good university in Korea , hopefully one that is in Seoul.
You can consider first entering a polytechnic (NP, NYP, SP, RP, TP) and study really hard for the three years to get into a local university. That is what I did. During my time, there were rumors that the universities don't really accept RP students but I don't know about now. It is not easy to do well enough to be accepted into a local uni but if you are determined and disciplined, I am sure it is possible.
