A 28 year old Indian national was jailed 8 months for groping a woman’s breasts on a crowded MRT train in June this year. Islam Mohidul pretended to crossed his arms and groped a woman’s breasts seated next to him.
The woman eventually shouted at the foreign worker, who then repeatedly apologise and claimed that it was an accident. She then took a photo of him and later went to lodge a police report. Islam Mohidul was later arrested and lied to the police that by feigning ignorance. He subsequently confessed to the offence afterwards.
The Indian national was sentenced to jailed for 8 months for outrage of modesty. He is however not charged for lying to the police and has also gotten away with caning.
Molest cases have been on the rise due to overcrowding in Singapore’s public transport. The Singapore government is however still short of more than 1 million more from its 6.9 million population target.
