1. Most of the SBS and Trans-Island buses were non-air-condition until early 90s after MRT started their operation I think. 2. Even the taxis had non-air-condition type and those air-condition type. Lower fare for non-air-condition and higher fare for air-condition.

To the 80's and 90's....
We are the last generation that learnt to play in the street, the last generation who played hide and seek.
we are the first who've played video games, seen cartoons in colour and amusement parks
We were the last to record songs of the radio on cassettes, we knew the connection between a pencil and cassette and
we are the pioneers of walkmans and chat...rooms.
We Learned how to programme the VCR before anyone else, play with the Atari, Super Nintendo and believed that the Internet would be a free world.
We are the generation of the Giant Robot, He-Man, Street Hawk, Thunder Cats, the Transformers, Silver Hawks, Gumby, Highwayman, Manimal, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,
- Traveled in cars without seat belts or air-bags, rode the bike without helmets, drinking and driving was not a crime, lived without cell phones,
- We did not have Play stations, 99 television stations, flat screens, surround sound, mp3s, iPods, computers and the Internet,
...but we had time to rest our head on our grandmas lap and listen to bed time stories, we had time to sit and watch chitrahar, rangoli, and saturday evening movies with our parents.
We knew how to build a sand castle on the beach, we knew how to fish with a bend needle and a worm or live prawn.
We knew the smell of a slate and chalk pencils. We knew the music before the news at 7 on the radio.
We held our dads hands to wait in the bank while they drew money , instead of atms.
but nevertheless we had a GREAT Time!!!yes copy and paste, but still good

Big World sounded very familiar to me but I can't recall it...hope clive could help you with this... -

The Pager era was in the late 80s...usually telephone number appeared and then we called back. -

Extra service charge from Singapore Telecom for that service I think. My pager was only receiving phone numbers and then I return their calls. However, in the late 80 too Singapore Telecom came up with a service for residential phone to receive voice mail box...I can't recall whether got extra charge for that or not. -

Still recovering from my lau sai... Of course have, stay tune. I was about 5 years young that time. -
Retirement age was 55 and Singaporeans received their hard earn money from their CPF back.

Bought a 4S room HDB flat at Yishun for $44,500 with 25 year loan scheme directly with HDB. Joint ownership with my wife to be, paid deposit of $8000 deducted from our CPF accounts in late 1986. Early 1987, we got our flat key and got married. HDB had 100 per cent controlled over the sales, resale, purchase and loan of HDB flat housing market. Banks in Singapore were not allowed to be involved in HDB housing market. HDB flats were not allowed to be mortgaged or used as collateral for any bank loans and HDB flats too were not allowed to be used as a business address registrations. It was better this way for Singaporeans.

I think it depends....on the sponsors I think....always came up in the mass media news to promote more marriages in Singapore. -
