SINGAPORE - Citizen journalism website Stomp shared pictures of cars sloshing through ankle deep water after heavy rains resulted in flash floods in low-lying areas in Singapore.
Contributors Sharon, Gary and Joyce wrote in with photos and videos of the flash floods that occurred during the early evening of yesterday. There was even a fallen tree and a stalled car during the episode.
Said Stomp contributor Sharon who snapped a photo of a car in the water: "Engine stalled while caught in flash flood."
Another contributor Gary shared: "I noticed the following roads were flooded.
"Jalan Besar, Serangoon Road, Hindoo Road, Veerasamy Road, Sam Leong Road, Verdun Road, Bendemeer Road, Boon Keng Road, Yio Chu Kang Road, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.
"It took about an hour before the flooding subsided. I tried to contact the PUB via its hotline for more than 30 minutes but the line was very busy and I could not get through to anyone."
Said Joyce: "Flash flood along Mackenzie Road behind the Istana.
"There was also a fallen tree along Kramat Road."
The Public Utilities Board (PUB) issued an alert on Friday that high tides of at least 3.4 metres are expected from January 12 to 15, 2013.
Afternoon showers with thunder were also expected for this period. PUB said that heavy rain coinciding with high tides may lead to localised flash floods, especially in the low-lying coastal areas such as Fort Road and Meyer Road.
Canals that are influenced by tides, such as Bedok Canal and Siglap Canal will see high water levels even when there is no rain.
Is that Mt Elizabeth Hospital at orchard in the pic?
