SINGAPORE:
Singaporean employers and employees hold different views about the
contributions of non-Singaporeans in their company, according to a
survey by JobStreet.com.
On the issue of the lower cost of hiring
non-Singaporeans, 66 per cent of employees surveyed considered this as
the reason for hire. This however was a pull factor for only 16 per cent
of employers.
40 per cent of employers indicated that the main
reason for hiring non-Singaporeans was their flexibility in taking up
jobs that locals avoid.
Country Manager of JobStreet.com
Singapore Anthony Ung said many local employers do adopt the
"Singaporean-First" policy when hiring. As such, Mr Ung advises that
local employees should focus their best effort forward rather than
speculating about the threats of a co-worker.
The survey also threw up other interesting views.
27
per cent of locals surveyed said that they saw value in working with
non-Singaporeans. They said non-Singaporeans were thought to be less
demanding at work and better skilled in their area of work compared to
Singaporeans.
47 per cent of the employers surveyed reaffirmed
their decision to hire non-Singaporeans, citing lower employee turnover
rate as the key benefit. Employers surveyed also said non-Singaporeans
have fewer demands at work and are more willing to put in longer hours
at work.

this is bullsheet lah. answer survey is like that, but when hire that time is not like that its about cost. the other main reason is slavery. those ft boh bian 1, so can treat them like slaves, sgreans cannot. hire FT also good, in times of bad economy, sgreans bosses can weigh the ratio of trash to sgreans workers and do the layoffs or retrenchment, like that they safer. sorry for being so negative, but on the floor situation is not as hevenly virgin anglic as reports indictae.
u sure employers hire not bcos of costs?u think we r kindergarten students don't know the truth!

Its the attitude and every one hates the locals including themselves in most cases.
they create a 'kaisu' mindset, not only sg but other countries also the same. this kiasu trait is not inherent of sgrenas only. only that swuaku people like us whant an indentity - so we giv one kiasu identity to ourselves. throw a meat to hungry wolves and sure they will fight one another out.
kaisu isn't a Singapore thing; it is a sign of overcrowding.
foreigners highly skilled?that only applies if foreigners with 2 years experience at work compared with fresh ns guys going into workforce.
other than that the sporeans are same or better than foreigners after some time at same job.in fact last job the malaysian dude werkin next to me didnt want to do overtime and took more mc than anyone i know and he wasnt even tortured at work.what each person knows is slightkly different from the other and the willingness to learn.but in general they have almost same knowledge depending on the upgrades they had in past.however once foreigners go in dont expect pay to increase much for 30 years.
so if the hr manager say foreigners are skilled.,what he probably really meant that he needs more foreigners to pay him under table money like say $10k per person .normally in a lifetime of hr manager...he could get like 100 foreign payees vying foor sporean professional jobs in factories, office and companies would amount to $1,000,000. so hr managers can retire in comfort somewhere in aruba or canada after that.
