SINGAPORE: An escalator accident at Pearl's Centre earlier Tuesday left at least two people injured, according to eye-witnesses.
The escalator was going up when it suddenly moved in the opposite direction.
The change in direction caused those on the escalator to fall backwards.
Eye-witnesses said out of the four people on the escalator, three were senior citizens.
One of them sustained injuries to her back while another injured his ankle.
Pearl's Centre Management told Channel NewsAsia that it is still investigating the cause of the incident.
Regular
visitors to the centre said the escalator has often malfunctioned and
that they hope the management can upgrade its facilities for public
safety.
"I hope the management can fix this problem. If (it
cannot be fixed), then (they should) change the escalator," said one
visitor to the centre.
