An elderly woman was killed by a car that ran a kerb at Woodlands Drive 14.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (20 June) at about 5.45pm.

64-year-old Madam Gwee Ham Siau, was walking with her daughter-in-law and her two grandsons, when a sedan mounted the kerb and crashed into them.

Her daughter-in-law Madam He Mei Qing, 35, and her two grandsons, aged 6 and 8, sustained broken bones, bruises and some lacerations.

All four were taken to Khoo Teck Puat hospital for treatment.

Madam Gwee succumbed to her injuries around 8pm.

Since then, Madam He has been discharged and the two boys have been transferred to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

The Straits Times reported that the driver of the sedan was a Sri Lankan architect who said that he mounted the kerb to avoid a boy who suddenly ran across the road.

In a report by Asiaone.com, it was reported that the car was carrying P-plates.

It is still unclear if the alleged boy who ran across the road was one of Madam Gwee’s grandchildren.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and the police are carrying out investigations.
