I AGREE with Mr Howard Lin ('Right foreign professionals always welcome'; May 12) that Singaporeans are willing to accept foreigners whose expertise is vital to our economic growth, but not those who accept jobs at lower wages.
Such foreigners are willing to work for much lower pay, and their living expenses are also low because they rent rooms.
While companies are eager to hire such workers, does the quality of their work match Singaporeans'?
Singaporeans are not unwilling to upgrade their skills. But they do not want to take on an office job for a factory worker's pay, which is what employers pay foreigners.

lower wage = lower spending power = not helping economy
besides, most of them remits their money back to their homeland and keeps the money there. Thus our bank dun benefit from them, ie: cannot use money for investment etc...
there is a limit to everything; even you are driving a Ferrari.

In a small country you dun need fast speed. The fast speed of foreigners plunging to Sg will kill Sg and the foreigners as well.
Akan datang.
small country, speed is ok...
however, our productivity with less population like b4 and more population like now, is the same...
and of coz, if u wan to talk abt productivity, density will not help if we are overload... why, go work also late becoz trains too packed, need longer time queueing up for food and other services... how to increase productivity?
Quality is the answer, not quantity...

We also need the ones who will do hard labour and manual tasks, simply because Singaporeans won’t do such jobs. Singaporeans have been brought up to believe and expect that life owes them a higher quality of living . Be a servants? No way! Be a dustbin collector no way! it ‘snot just low pay but they destest such jobs. There needs to be a re-orientation in terms of educational expectations vs job match and requirements vs pay and reward system.
agreed to an extend...
youngs are brought up with "see if you dun study hard, u'll end up like the cleaner over there~"... Wat's wrong with being a cleaner? It's still an honest job that u dun kill or rob...
imagine if no one wans to be hawker... will we even have hawker centre or food court next time? All will be taken over by FTs...
The main problem is too much foreigners. I don't think the problem is with poor or rich foreigners.
Rich fuckers come here, drive big car, stay in sentosa cove and insult Singaporeans, I also don't want.
Damn crowded now.
Numbers keep increasing every day.
Selective? hahahahah. Does this word exist when the Pui M Lee let in foreigners.
If I did not remember wrongly, I read that they even let in pros and invite them to be PRs. Any foreigners can be PRs.
However much and hard they try to brainwash us that they get in foreigners without affecting us we all are not stupid and dumb to believe them. Too many times in shouting "Wolf Wolf" , we don't believe any more.
We need to grow gdp at all cost.

Cost of living is increasing. Wages should increase to keep up with higher cost of living.
So say some minister.
My fortune teller tells me that if I never meet my lucky star, my quality of life will not improve.
Another minister also say must increase productivity.
My grandma also tell me if I eat more, must do more.

We must maintain low wages to remain competitive.
We must increase wages to combat higher cost of living.
Damn loop. Stressed.
