SINGAPORE: An
86-year-old unemployed man was jailed seven months on Tuesday after he
was found guilty of cheating a housewife of S$250.
Tan King
Liang, who was aware of a dispute between the housewife and her
neighbour, took advantage of the situation and duped her into giving him
money.
He first approached the 55-year-old woman in August last year and told her that he knew about her situation.
Tan promised to help her resolve the dispute and asked her to follow him to People's Park Centre.
He then requested the money from her after he claimed that he would help her and had engaged a lawyer on her behalf.
However, he continued asking for more money and even the woman's necklace.
This resulted in the woman becoming suspicious and asking for documents, which Tan was unable to provide.
