I AM a frequent traveller and have noticed a significant number of older workers employed at Changi Airport.
I commend the Changi Airport Group (CAG) for its efforts in creating meaningful employment for the elderly. Some of the jobs that I observed them doing include trolley handling, directing passengers to allocated taxis and driving buggy carts.
I am not aware if these contract jobs are outsourced and of the working hours of these older workers, but if the wages are appropriately pegged and work schedules well rostered, these are jobs that are suitable for the elderly.
Perhaps other Singapore-based companies should take the cue from CAG and apply more thought into the creation and design of jobs for the elderly.

a bit sad tt our elderly still have to work , rite?
Well, we can always comfort ourselves and say they are working to kill time.
It's no fun standing for hours and pushing those heavy trolleys.
Its more fun standing behind the kitchen counter folding burgers, and throwing fries in the fryer.
I'm an ok retiree for the last 30+ yrs but I can't say that to most of my friends.
Many are poor and have little to start with. Some are a bit well off but get off to bad investments or into silly things or health problems that turn their retirement upside down.
Even as a retiree, one has to be mindful on how to inflation can eat up one's savings when income and situations can change with time.
Time and tide wait for no man even you're a retiree...
Maybe someone shd write to st forums about the foodcourts in sg and how they're hiring the elderly to clear plates.
WOW its an honor to employee the cheap elder people in SG, thanks to the great Social security system and cheap life.
i suxx.
Wiping tables is fun.
How much are they paid btw?
most of the elderly working are contract cleaners who sometimes have to do double-shifts to make ends meet...
and they don't get paid much... somewhere in the upper 3-figure monthly gross amount

If I'm not wrong, those civil servants who were under the former pension scheme can retire with ease of mind.
I knew of one old man, said he worked for over 40 years in the civil service, withdrawn lump sum pension of 400 to 500K.
Unfortunately for him, he still has to work at his age because one of his children - special need case.

those under the pension scheme are most likely above 86 yrs now, but the amount they received isn't really sufficient unless they are of higher scale.

I believe a more accurate age would be around 66 or 67.
Singapore is a facade that flatters to deceive. These folks you see them dressed in nice uniforms when at work but after knocking off, they return home to their 1 room flats.
My in-laws when they first came to sg, they got a shock to see so many aunties and uncles clearing plates off foodcourt tables. In Indonesia, at that kind of age for the Chinese, it's time to see your grandchildren getting married and your children expanding their businesses. And when you're free, go to the bank vault to check your gold bars.
