THE National Environment Agency (NEA) should ban the use of styrofoam disposables and plastic containers ('Better green features in new food centres'; yesterday).
Use only ceramic and metal containers instead. The NEA can start with 10 hawker centres by issuing these items free to hawkers, who will charge customers for their use.
Over time, the customers will bring their own containers.
As long as customers can afford the cheap, environmentally unfriendly containers now provided, the NEA will have to continue to incinerate them.

next time I make a trip to chinatown to eat, must bring a kitchen worth of utensils just to eat...
shoooo moody...
Eh wait, Mr Leong sell Ceramic or metal containers one ah???
This clown, just follow hospital's example of using paper container.
And those 10 hawkers better be the BEST in town or they're gonna have to stop selling take-aways when the container itself cost just as much as the food.
Really a clown.
Washing the utensils also uses a lot of water. The water itself is precious. It is just tai chi the problem.

Ceramic and metal containers?
Ceramic can break easily.
Metal can burn people's arm.

yup, styrofoam should be banned.
It is safe if it is used to put cold drink, but nowadays a lot of people use it to put hot drink, which is very poisonous and harmful in long term.
MOM should let us knock off at 4pm everyday
so we can go home and cook dinner
home-cooked food very healthy no need to use styrofoam
I agree on the use of paper containers.
At least they are safer than styrofoam and more biodegradable.
While I agree that we should encourage the use of Tupperware, inevitably there will be some people who need disposable containers. What if, say, you suddenly decide to takeaway some food but don't happen to have a container? Would you go to the nearest supermarket just to buy another container? That would be an even greater waste of resources.
I suggest encouraging people to bring their own containers, while charging a ten-cent surcharge for those who want to use disposable paper containers.
those that serve with disposable plates and cups are wasteful and not environmentally friendly..
