Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean said in Parliament on Tuesday that an average of 1,200 Singaporeans had renounced their citizenship every year from 2007 to 2011.
Of this average yearly figure, 300 are naturalised citizens.
Overall, however, the renunciation rates for both naturalised citizens and Singapore-born citizens were low during this period - about 0.1 per cent or less.
Mr Teo said that the reasons for emigration vary. 'Some emigrants leave for family reasons - because of marriage, or to reunite with family members overseas, while others do so for a different living environment,' he said.
let's be honest
they cannot stand Singapore anymore is the top reason
these 1200 have done it successfully..!
other than this lot, many others are comtemplating to emigrate or working (striving) towards their goal ..to get out of this no-life stagnant country
renounce already ... go where ?
unless you don't have your immediate families in Singapore...
for these ppl, anywhere oso better than here
chances are they are former immigrants.... granted PRs thru employment, later citizenship.....then suay suay kena retrenched.... then forced to leave...
these are the people w/o families' roots in Singapore...
2ndly, they can withdrawn their CPF contributions.
This is really a BIG joke, normally you would imagine those who renounced their citizenship would be in a very bad and precarious position.
But hey, on the contrary, those who renounce their SG citizenship get an instant windfall !!
Tens of thousands of dollars the sg govt leeched from you, you may practically retire in the other country you have migrated to !!
This is vintage UNIQUELY SINGAPORE.
I cant say I am not tempted to renounce my SG citizenship. I am making plans to do just that.
Its gonna be one of the proudest moments of my life when i throw the pink ic back into the ICA cronies face.
talking is cheap
can u easily secure citizenship with another "better" country
Who needs to get citizenship ?
Just a PR shall suffice !! Obviously getting one in another country is not easy, if not who else will wanna continue rotting here ?
But so long you set your heart to it you will achieve it !!
Even a PR of another state has better treatment and welfare compared to a SG citizen in his own country.
Now that is the 2nd BIG Joke of the day !!

More likely lunch time no place to sit.
Even 300 new citizens give up their citizenship.
Every year on average.
Haiz.
Once get US citizenship, can dump sg citizenship.
For locals, finally get to see their CPF and dun want to get miserable few hundreds every month.
Buy more stuff with less money and not the other way.
Times are bad.
So funny, why are people concerned about these yearly 1200 fellas ?
They should worry about themselves !!
Most of these 1,200 are now at some other place, shaking their leg, pleasant and well balanced life, enjoying their immediate incurred wealth, while most sporeans are stuck here !!
Still having 20% of their pay gobbled up, waiting for few hundred dollars payout every month and expecting even more than 20% to be munched up as they get old !!
Sickening sg govt continue to play with stats and make it seem like majority of Sporeans really enjoy it here. Fxxk you !! Seriously... FxxK you !!
If Singaporeans are freely given a choice whether they wanna continue living here, do you honestly think the figures will be 1,200 yearly ?
120,000 each year would be more like it !!!
Some of the 1,200 go overseas for study, and don't want to come back.
Some work overseas and stay put.
Some married foreigners and take up resident that country.
Very few chabot. Because it is not easy to just go, and set up yourself there.
The choice is always there.
1200 not a lot leh. takes 1000 years to lose 1/3 of population assume the numbers stayed the same.

Population will never drop.
For every 1000 that leave in a year, another 100,000 comes in to replace them.

Nobody thinks PAP is doing a good job. They just pretend that they are doing a good one.. thats all.
Hell !! Even those in PAP know it by heart that they suck at their job !!
But they’re in it for the money !!!
To be paid tens and thousands of bucks, all you need to do is just be a lap dog and say YES everytime, who wouldn’t want it ?
What PAP puts up is just a facade, a smokescreen to justify their high returns !!
No one inside there really cares about the people ~~ Wake up brothers !!
.
You damn pessimistic.
