The young people are the hope of our future.
When I was your age, I was so carefree and happy.
Nothing hurts me more to see the younger generation so pessimistic and fearful for the future. Don't!!!!
Very often our mind has a way of playing on our feeling of fear more than the actual situation warrants. Know what I mean?
OK got to logoff and go bath now.
See you!
Damn lot of weird people around.

Yes.
Sorry guys. Became extremely busy as vday approached and the days that followed. Managed to pop my head once or twice to catch a glimpse but I didn't want to give any half-ass comments.
-----------------------------------
Looking over the concerns that you guys have raised against the current ruling party and against the light of the recent budget, I personally feel that the budget has helped to address some of the key issues. And it is not that extensive to create the "crutch" mentality. I have benefitted to some extent, yipee! :)
This may not be a good place to talk about the recent Budget as it creates the impression that it is a political move as mentioned by some. But regardless, it helps so is PAP moving towards a more people-approach?
Should increase GST to help the poor.

Wow. I'm surprised too.
You have a very bright future ahead of you if you work hard.
As an uncle... a few words of advice... enjoy your teens, but remember that Results are forever.

Tax the rich?
Then they won't be happy. And it causes a brain drain if they migrate out. Then we have to import more FTs leh!!
the most dangerous thing in politics is when the people hate you for no reason and no matter what you have done or do

The way I see it - more of a reactive than proactive budget.
By reactive, I refer to the events that unfold leading to the lowest result showing - ever.
By proactive, I refer a budget that anticipate future and not past events.

+1.
I started this thread with that in mind. I don't want some ABC party in my country given a choice.
actually, i like seeing a fight.
for example, aaron tan vs steven lim.

Likewise. Honestly, it is more practical to import FTs than retraining the elderly in an economic point of view.
But I hope the budget this time would be the jumpstart of more social budgets.
Actually if you were to look at the timing of last year Budget(2011), it was in the middle of a financial crisis that greatly impacted Singapore. So I can't say that our government was unaware of the brewing anger of Singaporeans against FTs. They had to focus on more urgent issues at hand. (And it rebounded our economy) They could not do a budget like this year as cost savings was very important last year. Therefore, to jump upon the bandwagon and say our government has been insensitive and only changed after the GE may be a little too far fetched.
Drawing a extrapolation on the above concept, it may even be that PAP could have compromised their standing willingly.
Don't know how true. Just treading a thought-train here.

Just googled. Oh.

I once saw a old granny taking a big piece of glass(those broken off from the glass table kind) and trying to cut a cupboard.
While I don't want to see these poor people in such dire straits, but will giving them grants be a good idea?

sad to see elderly that worked their whole lives who wasn't paid that much then with their mini savings to be wiped clean by inflation. Can't blame them as that's what they can afford to save.
Picking cans and cardboards just to survive. Wish the government that is boasting how great this nation give a thought of those that build the foundation.

Do you know what is a "welfare state"?
And the pros and cons behind it?
We could be the next Britain.
