Why is there so much dislike towards PAP? While I can understand the concerns of high housing prices, lack of supply of HDB, high COE prices, high cost of living, but the extent of the dislike is seriously beyond fathom.
One thing bugging my mind is the recent issue of the low birth rate. Some people choose to blame our former prime minister with his policy then, "Stop at two" during 1970 to 1976. There is indeed a linkage to our current dilemma, however if you just take a step back, you can clearly see that the policy of "Stop at two" was necessary to the blooming economy back then. I don't think our government has some crystal ball to forsee the future(30 years later leh!)... but even if the government had forsee the current situation, the policy is still vital to control the birth rates, otherwise there will be a different Singapore today.
I have noticed a great number of Singaporeans just bashing nonsensically. Can anyone justify their comments? I sincerely wish to know why.
Maybe I would even place my vote in more capable hands in the next GE.

What linkage?
Population control was the trendy thing to do in the 70s, so PAP blindly followed the policy.

POPULATION
Scapegoat of the ’70s
The rate of world population growth peaked at some point around the middle of last decade and has since stalled. Latest estimates from the UN Population Division suggest that total world population, which now stands at just over 4 billion, will touch 6 billion by the end of the century.
At the very beginning of the 70s it was widely believed that rapid population growth in the developing world was the most important cause of continuing poverty.
The population ‘explosion’, it was argued, was wiping out any economic development which the developing countries managed to achieve. ‘No other problem casts a darker shadow over the prospects for international development than the staggering growth of population,’ said the Pearson Commission Report on ‘Co-operation for Development’, published in 1970.
But as the decade progressed this view began to give ground under repeated attacks from a Third World which was profoundly suspicious of the convenient Western argument which laid the blame for poverty at the feet of the improvident poor.
The counter-argument ran like this. Large families and rapid population growth are in themselves a result of poverty. In the absence of social security, unemployment pay, sickness benefits and old age pensions, poor people need children to look after them when they are out of work, sick or old.
Secondly, the millions of poor people who live in the rural areas of the Third World need children to help with the daily ‘survival’ jobs of collecting wood and water and looking after animals, which commonly take up to twelve hours a day every day and which children can and do perform throughout the developing world...

Ya, so like you said, their policy then was justified.
Haha true that. Still waiting for someone with more sound policies than the last debate where WP founded their arguement on something they were unsure about.

People talking about PAP keeps raising the cost of living and this is bashing nonsensically??? Damn it la, get lost lor if you are not tolerable for comments reflecting reality of life in Singapore.
Hey hey, before you get all touchy, you must know that cost of living also affect me ok. Salary not increasing as fast as its going out.
Ok, maybe the bashing nonsensically was stretched too far, but I really don't understand why every thing can be linked to the faults of the government. Like blaming the jam on the PIE and also blaming for the high COE prices. I mean, what do they expect the government to do? Expand the roads into housing districts? And lead to higher housing prices?
becos they thought they grasp everything through elitism and scholars....
how dead wrong they are.....and such policies only sow hatred and discord...

Yep, there has been many scholars proven to be "less useful" in recent times.
But with the arguement of passion and skills, if a junkie is passionate about changing Singapore, can you trust him more than a scholar with little passion? Ofcourse the combination of both would be nothing less than great.
What is being poor in singapore?
Being poor is watching ur grades go down thanks to the school pushing newbie teachers into the class, because ur parent can't afford tution for you.
Being poor is hoping that the bookstore would be empthy so that you could use the ntuc back to school voucher without anyone spotting you.
Being poor is being part of the family when everyone knows it's okay to pick on.
Being poor is knowing the exact price of everything.
Being poor is never going to the movies.
Being poor is hoping you won't grow any taller or bigger because you have no money to buy new clothes.
Being poor is having hand down clothes.
they still think the sun revolves around the earth...with power, they thought against the truth on the ground....and feel proud and did a service for us...
wat a joke
we need a copernican revolution

As much as I believe in the potential of people, there is also the need for people to grow at their own pace. Which similars to the education system now. They can "upgrade" to a better school/stream if they seem to be late bloomers. But yes, I also see faults in the education system but the fundamentals still make sense to me.
Haha no air to breathe in crowded train, that one the government also has its own limits. Ultimately SMRT is still a private company though Temasek Holdings has shares in it.

Yes, you are right. I don't have the brain and objective mind like yours to come to your conclusion.
I have my conclusion, but this thread is set up so I can know your/and others intentions. So my question still stands, So please tell me why they are bloody useless, greedy and selfish?
Let me tell you something honestly .
People who grew up poor like me will never have children unless we are rich, at least earning $5000 a month, have a house.
i don't wanr my child to feel as messed up and upset as me

I also feel poor when you put it in that manner, haha. Though you will hate me for this, but our poor and other countries poor is a huge gap. Nevertheless, no one likes being poor, no matter how it is defined.
I have to say that it is not schools who push newbie teachers to us, but MOE who decides on the distribution of teachers. I know several teachers who said that NIE has a strict interview when they evaluate potential teachers. How true is that, I leave it to you guys to decide.

Likewise. It's basic morals to want to provide your child with a comfortable household without sticky financial issues coming into play.
So I never once blamed SG girls from being materialistic. I can only work harder if I want a good wife right. They don't drop from the sky or through lottery.
