when these ppl become old, we would pack them all in a rocket and shoot them into space
They have no foresight. With a growing aging population any housing close to elderly facilities will appreciate faster.

That's what I thought too
Maybe the ppl in those estates have eternal youth so they won't age and won't need those facilities
HDB built our houses with one nice open every few km. Of course I won't want it taken over.
Whether for car park, play ground, or ugly concrete "decorations" with "Choa Chu Kang Vista" on it, some cock could have exercised better planning.
its their right to object

We will all grow old one day so those people should be more gracious in this issue....But I don't see what is the problem of building centres for elderly people. They won't make too much noise or what.
In our homes or families, there is at least one elderly person and I just can't imagine the feelings of these people who were against the idea.

Being old is just naural but many young ones do not feel how it is like to be old. Some tasks that are easy when old becomes almost impossible.
What is happening to us Singaporean? We used to be compassionate, considerate and kampung spirited. What is happening????
Look like the gaovernment won't have to make the aged go to JB and Batam. We will be doing it at our own accord

Ageing and dying is part and parcel of the living and dying process. In Singapore however the family unit is getting smaller and many do not live together in an extended family arrangements whereby they get the chance to bond love and understand their older folks. Grannies and Grandpas are just someone convenient to drop off the kids to, when the parents are busy and need some help. And when they are old and aged, the occasional weekly and monthly visits suffice on a "rotation basis" by the children. The daily care of the old being relegated to Pinoy or Indonesian maids. This is the way Singaporeans are bred in this lovely metropolis! So they look upon the ageing old and sick parents as a bloody inconvenience. How many these days will clean up the soiled clothing reeking of urine and shit of their old parents suffering from incontinence?" Oh it's too dirty - must have a maid to do that!" is the common retort. In educating our kids, we give them the best in terms of knowledge base and experiences. Our children are well fed, well travelled and spoilt rotten. Personally cleaning and caring for their aged parents are task too beneath this generation of nouveau riche Singaporeans with maids these days! It is high time schools spent less resources on immersion courses overseas etc and perhaps spend some effort engaging their students in social work activities, by forming social work clubs in schools and organise routine visits to help in homes for the aged and physcially challenged. Let there be some practical lessons in humanity and compassion starting in schools, less in future we become an even more uncaring, unfeeling and crass Singapore. No point having a highly educated population of emotionally unfeeling derelicts!
Sad that our government would like us to work cheaper, faster, better but makes it so hard to hire maids to look after the young and old in our familes.

Many countries do not have maids. They still have to manage. There is no God given right that the Pinoys and Indonesians will forever have to be maids to Singaporeans. Sure maids can be of assistance to the elderly but nothing compensates for the personal concern, love and care sincerely shown by children for their aged parents.
Where did I ever say anything about a God given right? Did I say that the government makes it hard for us to capture slaves, or to raise a family on more than a single income without nocturnal shift work?
Times are bad.

The Health Ministry is going ahead with plans for a daycare centre for the elderly in the void decks of two Woodlands blocks, but will take into consideration the concerns of residents who petitioned against it.
To address their concerns about noise and traffic congestion, the ministry said the centre will be sound-proofed and air-conditioned, its opening hours would be limited, and a transport service would take old people to the centre without adding to traffic or parking woes.
The decision to go ahead came even as a voluntary welfare organisation launched an online petition to make people aware of the need for elder-care services and garner support for such centres.
The petition - 'Say yes to eldercare services' - was started by the Marine Parade Family Service Centre and urges Singaporeans to speak out against those who oppose having elder-care facilities in their neighbourhood.
