IN MY view, instances of bosses unreasonably demanding instant responses to e-mail at all hours of the day (or night) are relatively few ('Addicted to work e-mail? Take a break'; Monday).
Apart from employees who have an obsessive inability to let go of work and relax, and who incessantly check their e-mail, the people who pressure you for instant replies or want something done the day before are likelier to be co-workers and clients, rather than bosses.
A colleague, issued with a company BlackBerry, refers to it as a leash. Another's response is that with the BlackBerry, he need never go to the office again, and can be at the beach and yet be working.
A third sees the BlackBerry as a reference indicator of what work activities are happening, but it takes great discipline to keep it as just that.
The problem here is that - while I am not suggesting that one be less responsible or diligent - the more promptly we respond or seem available to boss, client or peer, especially after office hours, the more we end up setting the wrong expectations, and the more they will come back for more.

We should learn from Norway and their way of living. There is a reason why the main stream media rarely report news from norway.

Why? Less incidents or less news-worthy?
My take to the topic is that though Singaporeans work very hard, but the service and quality of goods/food are still poor.
Then what's the use of working so hard? Might as well take it easy, with reasonable time needed to produce good quality goods, food and service.
And, Singaporeans' "cheapskate" mentality should change;- want good quality, pay more, wait longer! No such thing as cheaper, faster and better!
aiyah cyber where don;t have? if its cheaper and faster - will auto be 'better'. no one cares about quality 1 lah. now in the island we already have the two elements everywhere - cheapo und faster, but sometimes i feel not that fast also leh

No auto better this kind of thing...
One forumer said, it's either any 2 of the 3. Never all 3 - faster, cheaper and better.
I'm one of those people who cared about quality.

It would be great that the bosses can leave you alone after your office hours.
Unless you dun have a handphone, a house phone and pager, you are open to your boss request if they choose to knock on your free time.
As we are not protected by any law, we need to response the request whether we like it or not unless you can tahan lousy appraisal and low bonus.
We are the victim of technology advancement.
Just because you want it does not mean you will get it.
