SINGAPORE: SMRT CEO Saw Phaik Hwa has told Channel NewsAsia that she has no plans to step down over the disruptions.
She said she's truly sorry for the inconvenience and discomfort faced by commuters, and that as CEO she's naturally responsible.
But she said being responsible does not mean walking away, instead it means doing all she can to get the problem fixed.
She said she is staying put to make everything right.
Ms Saw also admitted there were several problems that surfaced during the disruptions.
These included detraining procedures, announcements to the public, and bus shuttling arrangements.
She acknowledged that SMRT could have done better.

"SMRT should have done better."
They did not even done anything to ensure track and train mainenance are done properly.
Did LTA do their job to audit SMRT ?
We are actually quite lucky as it may have lead to some thing more severe.
We may have the most robust SOP but it is not performed properly.
The SOP will turn to SOB :(.
It is really a sad thing that we are our own undoing for MRT safety when so much effort is done on ensuring MRT is safe from terrorist.
$mil job hard to find.
How can resign?
Like the pappies who place her there are greedy for the money. Pappies won't step down to be accountable kakia follows them.

I think LKY's legacy of PAP is Singapore and vice versa is backfiring on him now. These things never happened when he was the CEO of Sg. Now SMRT screws up, people point their fingers at PAP.
In fact, me thinks there could have been some cover up there. How can 7 trains break down all around the same time? They must have known about these problems earlier. They could have been cheapskate, trying to maximise shareholder earnings per share and hence try to cut corners. Of course, I can't back all these claims up but I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Should have never hired a profit oriented CEO to run the business.
Now just keeping my fingers crossed and for some employee to blow the whistle. TRE came back at the right time
i tell you, she 打æ»éƒ½ä¸会走..
where to find a cushy job like this? when you screw up, just tell your kawan in the PTC to increase fares...
meanwhile, you use zip ties to fix everything

for sure I will never take MRT again with her at helm.
Under LKY, everything in sg is about dollars and cents. The whole country is run like a business organisation. No money no talk.
MRT is meant for profit making more than a service to the public.
a lot of people don;t realise that election is the time to get them off the list.
again they vote for their own demise, now that trains often get vandalised, perimeter security comprimised, crowed trains tations, now os getting out of hand train fault n dpassengers trapped within have to evacuate in tunels by fpoot with diminishing oxygen.

It is just the tip of the iceberg.
But, what can they do if they found more issues.
Will they released more findings later since the initial findings indicated that maintenance was not done properly ? (Hope they dun end up in NO verdict eventually)
The government have taken the correct approach to direct the people attention on solving the defect and discrepencies.
Are they brave and impartial enough to punish the company severely ?
Or the company will be let off with some fine ?
who will resign if they are paid millions!
It was all an act.
Not surprising. I knew that that whole thing about her 'considering' calls to resign was just a wayang.
I don't know how her logic works. The way I see it, if you screwed up once, then it's your responsibility to stay to fix things.
However, once you've royally screwed up several times in a row in a matter of days, the more responsible thing to do is to step aside and let someone else more capable take over.
I can accept that she may not be directly responsible for causing the breakdowns. However, as a leader she was responsible for making sure that such breakdowns are minimised and that the response to them would be adequate - and in that respect she has failed miserably.
And no, I'm not being melodramatic about this. SMRT's response management to mechanical breakdowns over the past few days was deplorable.
If this will be the same response as that of a terrorist strike in an MRT station, we will be seeing thousands of body bags - many of those being the direct result of such mismanagement.

I swear I won't take MRT anymore if she is still CEO !!!!

Year-end bonus coming..... (another few millions ??)....
she die die also want to stay at job.....
anyone disagree with me the 'work culture' in this country is very unique? if things go well lots and lots of credits are given - super scales salaries, bonuses and stock options etc. if screw up, never mind. taking responsibility, apologizing and resigning with remorse is not part of this so-called 'culture'.
did any of the top people ever take responsibility for their mistakes and resign from their positions? who doesnt like that kind of job? take credit when its due and need not take responsibilty when things go wrong. do or no do also take fat paychecks.
she has been in the job for 10 years. its time for her to step down and pass the baton to a capable person taking SMRT to the next level. she wouldnt want to outstay her welcome at SMRT wouldnt she. also does SMRT has a sucession plan? who will succeed her eventually she step down?
