Hong Kong (dpa) – A 26-year-old man died after collapsing Sunday near the finishing line of a Hong Kong marathon, organizers said.
The runner, who has not been named, was meters from the finish line of the half-marathon race when he collapsed. He was taken to hospital where he was certified dead.
Two other runners were in critical condition in hospital after collapsing during the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon races which comprised 10 kilometers, half-marathon and full marathon events, police said.
A record field of nearly 70,000 people took part in the races, the 16th year of the Hong Kong Marathon. Weather conditions and pollution levels were described as good for running.
Ethiopian Dereje Ali won the men’s full marathon race with a time of 2 hours and 11 minutes. Another Ethiopian, Misiker Demissie, won the women’s marathon in 2 hours 30 minutes.

The temperature is quite cold in HK at this time of the year.
(today) only at 13c to 15c around areas in Hong Kong Island......
RIP for the young man....
RIP
i read the hong kong article but dont really understand it.
why is there a need for a 缓冲 area after the finishing line in marathons? the runners complained its too short. only 100m.
what does that mean?
any idea?
You need to be conditioned in order to run in a event like this....I once took part in the Army Half Marathon and it was no joke...
The aim is to finish the marathon.
At least he did it.
RIP
now.
