He lived for too long.

He does seem senile, although his ideas have always been twisted.

He is our common enemy.
Grace begets grace, comtempt begets contempt. If he wants grace, he should have reciprocated.
Not too late, he should apologise to those he affected. They will forgive him, up to him only.

a few generations ago (3-4 for most chinese dialectal singaporeans, 8-10 for baba chinese singaporeans), singaporean chinese came from mainland china.
my take is, once you cross 1 generation, we have no need to discuss the "old" motherland's history as though as our own
examples:
americans of british ancestry study the american history, and not the british history
latin americans of spanish ancestry study the latin american history, and not the spanish history

might as well study anthropology.
so if cross one generation, you can forget who is your grandparent correct. what are the teori you like to use? nver too westerner till forget who you are and where you from..
Singapore is not only Chinese but a mixed community.

The reply above you by Clivebenss "might as well study anthropology" is apt.
Since I am able to specifically mention and to set the parameter as One generation (in my opinion), then EF can you set your specific parament as how many generation above to study the history from?
If in your opinion you can define how many generations back, then I appreciate your explanation why you think so / do not think so.
If you are not able to define how many generations back in your opinion, then you might as well eat the cake of "might as well study anthropology" bcos the past can go back to time immemorial till the prehistoric times when humans started walking and using fire.
Don't forget the Chinese people were not a homogeneous group of people in the first place where the Northern Han chinese has a different set of mitochondrial DNA difference from the Southern Han chinese below the Yangtze river, what is "Chinese" in fact in itself does not has a clear definition. I am very clear-headed about what I say, so I hope to listen to your opinions to the above.
What is "Chineseness" in itself is just a vague ideology, just like how the Germans think themself of the "Aryaness" qualities which in itself is also a vague ideology. What is one when they try to define, they cannot define "Arynaness", likewise when one try to define what is "Chineseness", one will bound to meet some problems in defining what is "Chineseness".
sorry never want to caused misunderstood here.
what l am saying is we shouldn't nvr forget our root and ourselves as oversea chinese no matter after how long time passed? you can emphasized you are Singaporean or Malaysian, or american chinese.

As I said earlier, not all of Singapore is Chinese.
Be mindful that the root Singapore is no one particular race or origins.

no misunderstanding at all lah. It is good for us to engage in discussion so it makes me think too.
you have mentioned the crucial phrase: "no matter after how long time passed".
this is where if you can define what do you mean by "no matter after how long time passed".
Then I shall pick one classic anthropological example from our region to show my point:
Linguist, geneticists, historians and anthropologists have come to a general conclusion that speakers of the Malay language (Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia) stems from the language family called the "Austronesian Langauge Family", which also includes Tagalog (Filipino). They were still related very closely only around 3500 years ago.
Do you often hear Malays in Singapore, Malaysia say that they are one big family with the Philipinos?
What I am trying to say is, time will pass, and history will be forgotten. A handful of people may think they are still closely related to China, when in fact we have lived in the new lands. Logically, we should be studying Malay culture more as we came to live in the land of the Austronesian Malays!
So I don't agree with you on the statement on "no matter after how long time have passed" unless you can define specifically on it's merits and demerits.
