SINGAPORE: President Tony Tan Keng Yam has called on Singaporeans not to allow diversity to divide the country.
A
key theme of his Opening Address to the 12th Parliament is how
Singapore has to manage an increasingly diverse population, with
different demands, expectations and needs, and still remain a cohesive
society.
In his address, Dr Tan set out the government's priorities, policies and programmes for its five-year term.
Dr Tan said that the government will look into the needs and concerns of the different strata in the community.
These
include the lower-income, the majority in the middle, those who do
exceptionally well, senior citizens and the young Singaporeans.
Dr Tan also highlighted challenges in efforts to reach out to the people.
He stressed that the new media must be used constructively to connect with the digital generation.
Dr Tan also called on all Singaporeans to do their part and work towards a shared goal of creating a better life for all.

this calls for participatory action parties....engagement from top down....
Divide???
It's already been divided...
It's either with or against...
if you realise, Diversity and Divide both start with 'Div'.
The very essence of diversity lies in division. you can't have one without the other.
He should be a common enemy that all singaporeans can unite against.
35% PAP President and PAP "manage" the country like an army. Every now and then command Singaporeans to do this and that. Sick!
Shared goal? What shared goal of creating a better life for all when the PM is only interested to get citizens to accept their shit.
A better life would be possible when we successfully vote in a party who are into giving commitment to make this come true.
from looks of it, i think the cpf and other crappy policies will divide and destroy spore.dun need anything else to destroy it.
but wait a minute, didnt lky and old guards step down???now who was the one who made all these recent policies???it cant be lee hsien loong!!!!and it cant be the PAP??so who was the one making the cpf sum etc and enforcing it all?
I hope he meant that Hougang, and Aljunied GRC should not be treated as renegade provinces.
