SINGAPORE: Two vigilant off-duty officers arrested a suspect wanted for cheating.
Police
had been looking for him in connection with the alleged offence on
August 18, when a 47-year-old resident of Montreal Drive lodged a report
that he was cheated of S$20.
The victim said the suspect claimed
that he was his neighbour and that his mother was hospitalised but he
did not have his wallet with him.
Police said the suspect used a
fictitious name, unit number and handphone number to assure the victim
that he would return him the money.
Even though the suspect's identity was established, he remained uncontactable.
At about noon on September 2, two off-duty officers who were at a fastfood outlet along Sembawang Drive spotted the suspect.
They
called for reinforcements and detained him when he walked out of the
fastfood outlet and was about to cycle off on his bicycle.
The suspect will be charged in court on Monday with cheating.
