WHILE residents strive to keep neighbourhoods clean, the unsightly and odorous waste collection trucks plying housing estates and shopping areas put an unpleasant blot on such efforts.
The picture shows a typical dirty-looking waste collection truck plying Katong, with waste still sticking out. The authorities should ensure that waste collection trucks are clean on and off the road.
The military requires all vehicles cleaned at the last parade task before they are on the road. The Land Transport Authority also requires that contractors' lorries are washed before taking the road.
Shouldn't waste collection trucks adhere to the same rules?

So waste collection trucks are meant to be clean? For real?

yar - and the collectors in the truck need to wear suit and tie otherwise image not good in public.
This made me LOL:
The military requires all vehicles cleaned at the last parade task before they are on the road.
So.... Veolia/Colex/Jakob Altvater/SembCorp must all conduct last parade?
And do Stand By Rubbish Truck?
Army exercise vehicles cannot be muddy on the road?

WE THANK Mr Ang Chin Guan for his letter ("Unsightly trucks should toe the clean line"; Forum Online, last Tuesday).
The truck was under the public waste collector (PWC) serving the Katong area and was on its daily round of refuse collection. Keeping its trucks clean and washed is part of the service obligations under the PWC contract.
We have since issued a warning to the PWC. Residents in this area can also look forward to new and better-designed refuse collection trucks from November following a new tender agreement with the PWC.
