The number of fires that raged across Singapore in the first half of 2011 fell 8 per cent to a 10-year low, but fatalities from the fires went up from zero to three over the same period, said latest statistics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
The number of people injured in fires also went up to 73, compared to last year's 34.
Residential fires remain an area of concern, accounting for 75 per cent of all fires here.
Among the main causes of these were rubbish fires and fires that were sparked from leaving stoves unattended.
