Police are looking for a man to assist with investigations into a series of flat rental scams reported at Block 123, Rivervale Drive, in Punggol.
He is Mr Dennis Ang Beng Kiat, and is described as being in his 40s and about 1.7m tall, said the police in a statement yesterday.
The appeal for information comes after at least three reports of flat-rental scams at the block were lodged from November last year.
In all the cases, victims had responded to flat-rental advertisements placed in the newspapers some time in mid-October last year.
The suspect would arrange with victims to view the unit and collect money from them, ranging from $2,700 to $8,000, in deposit and advance rental fees for the unit.
After collecting the money, the suspect would become evasive and, then, uncontactable.
Anyone with information on Mr Ang can call the police hotline on 1800-255-0000.
All information will be kept strictly confidential.
Members of the public are advised to report instances of people claiming to offer rentals of one- and two-room Housing Board flats to the police or HDB immediately, as such flats should be rented from HDB.
For other housing units, members of the public should seek the services of licensed estate agents or registered sales staff, known also as property agents.
Before they do so, they should check agents' identities and the validity of agents' credentials against the Public Register of Estate Agents and Salespersons on the Council for Estate Agencies website at www.cea.gov.sg
