Angsana Home, in a statement late on Friday night, said one of its residents, who died in hospital after allegedly being found injured, had neither been beaten up by other residents nor been involved in a fight.
Mr Claudius Steven Santhanasamy, 43, stayed at the home for destitutes. He died in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital last Tuesday.
His family filed a police report earlier that day alleging that other residents had assaulted him, based on his previous complaints.
Investigations into Mr Claudius' death are proceeding. Initial X-rays taken at the hospital indicated rib fractures, arm fracture and a suspected lung puncture.
Mr Lee Kim Siang, chairman of the Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society (THKMS), which runs the home, said: 'We would like to assure that the home had taken care of Claudius (to) the best that we could and we regret his passing.'
Medical records showed one of Mr Claudius' ribs had an injury when he first came to the home, Mr Lee said. He added: 'Hence the rib fracture was an old fracture.'
RIP.
