THE DOG was panting, trapped in a car in the afternoon with only a gap in the window.
An inspector from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) stayed with it for more than two hours, feeding it ice cubes through the gap to lower its temperature.
When the dog's owner returned, she insisted that the dog was fine because she had cracked the window open.
The SPCA told The Straits Times recently it has investigated more of such cases this year. The number has risen from an average of one reported incident a month last year to two to three such cases every month now.
Reports of cruelty to animals in general - from keeping them in wire cages to abandoning them to tying them up along Housing and Development Board flat corridors - also spiked to some 1,000 alleged cases in the past year, up 15 per cent from the previous year.
SPCA executive director Deirdre Moss said the higher figure was likely the result of more neglect by Singaporeans and more awareness of animal concerns.
Can't understand how some people buy animals to keep them in cages all day long. These people are animals themselves.
the 15% rise in cruelty to animals may mean 30% rise in cruelty to domestic maids...a ratio of 1:2 ....sad to say and ironically speaking, animals are still comparably well treated..
even dogs in tekong or any other SAF camps are treated better than human beings..

the lee dynasty treating us as money making machines not human beings.
We need to be 15% more cruel towards animal abusers then.

so it makes them look good when they take it for a walk at the park once in a blue moon.
The government is to blame.
The community is non chalant to the strays, a large number are sympathetic to the strays, a number would spend their time and money to feed them.
It only need one complaint, and the strays are executed.
It works like this.
One resident complains, that her grand daughter is frightened of cats, calls the town council. The property officer receives the call. To cover himself, he reports to the AVA. The AVA staff reveives the report. To cover himself he pass the complaint to the pest removal contractor. The pest removal contractor in order to earn $200 per stray, goes out and get the stray, any stray.
