Investigations into the 15-year-old Yuen Kai Lek's death revealed that the boy had no intention of taking his life. …
A teen who was suffering from Down's Syndrome accidentally hanged himself in his bedroom earlier this year.
A coroner ruled that the 15-year-old Yuen Kai Lek accidentally suffocated himself with a rope tied around his neck from his bedroom window.
It was not the first time the student from Fernvale Gardens School was playing with rope and wires, using them to tie his hands and feet.
Subsequently, his parents taught Yuen to not do it again and threw the wires away but forgot about the nylon rope in the kitchen, reported The Straits Times.
On the day of the accident, Yuen was last seen alive at 1pm by his 57-year-old mother who was on her way out to work.
The boy had locked himself in his room as he usually would and while his 17-year-old brother was in another room using the computer. His 62-year-old father was preparing Chinese New Year cards in a different room.
When his elder brother knocked on Yuen's door to take his uniform to prepare for work, no one came to the locked door.
A spare key was used to unlock the door and Yuen was found lifeless with his face already black.
When found, Yuen's upper body was slightly suspended from the bed on which his lower body was resting because of the rope tied to the grille. His hands were by the side.
According to investigating officer Hannah Cheong, there were no other visible injuries except for the marks around the neck and foul play had been ruled out.
