IT IS gratifying that the Singapore Kindness Movement Secretariat has been writing letters of encouragement concerning acts of courtesy and graciousness ("While there was some negative campaigning, it was more restrained than in the past"; May 13).
This is a good way to ensure that instances of exemplary behaviour do not go unnoticed. More can be done to really drive home the message.
The secretariat should organise talks in schools and conduct workshops especially for those in the service sector. Organising a national play-writing competition, as well as a photography contest with "gracious living" as the theme, will raise awareness of the moral quality of being kind, helpful and selfless.
