ON SATURDAY, 130 NEEDY residents will each receive $75 worth of food vouchers at the launch of the Food Vouchers Programme.
Each resident will receive coupons in denominations of $1 and $2, with each recipient receiving a total of $75. These coupons are redeemable at Blk 159 Mei Chin Road Market and Food Centre and are valid till July 31, 2011.
The coupons are funded for a trial period of three months, by Central Singapore Community Development Council and the Queenstown CCC Community Development and Welfare Fund.
More than 70 per cent of the hawkers from the Mei Ling/Stirling Business Association have voluntarily decided to maintain their prices for six months to benefit the residents in the area.
Saturday's launch will be attended by Mr Baey Yam Keng and Ms Indranee Rajah, Advisers to Tanjong Pagar GRC Grassroots Organisations, Dr Lily Neo, Adviser to Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Grassroots Organisations and Major General (NS) Chan Chun Sing. They will all be present, distributing the vouchers and explaining their use to the residents.
