LIM HWEE HUA is a sucker .
All working in PM's office are the cream of the crop for being yucks.
dunno wat to say abt LHW
She mentioned last yr abt cutting long distance bus routes citing that they appeared before the MRT appeared.
Actual fact was, many of the long distance bus routes appeared during the MRT rationalisation program. Sv 30, 51, 154's long distance mileage was all thanks to the MRT . Long dist Sv 66 was introduced as a totally new bus service in 1989 during the MRT rationalisation program.
I think the young govt policy makers got their facts all wrong.
"Why do nationalized trains work but not nationalized buses?"
???
The MRT tracks are built by the government
The roads are built by the government.
Bus or trains, the operators run them on national infrastructure, to the best of their abilities.
National infractures / government department run trains and buses, will it work?

MRT lines are nationalized, their operators aren't and the lines are drawn up by govt studies. As a result it works very well up to its capacity. If a private company only provides 8 trains per hour, can the govt fund a 9th and 10th? Can the same approach work for buses?
This means everyone will get a chance to board. The govt will determine crowding standards and if operators are not happy about losing money, why should the govt be so quick to use its power everywhere but not here?
We need to streamline traffic flow, not just limit cars. Why is going down Orchard Road quick but going in the opposite direction so slow? Because the roads are not rationalized towards public or any much transport. The same in towns.
The closest thing I've seen is the $36M Stamford Road tunnel, which doesn't help buses much because there was already a bus lane. I suspect ever since, re-laying roads has been a political suicide move.
We supposedly have the best paid, best brains in the govt to solve such problems.
Eh.. SMRT dun own the train, the carriages are purchased by e govt.
So you want more train, ask them during the budget.
SBS's coming was during the days the govt had no means onto running a bus co. Furthermore by 1970s, UK's nationalised industry began to show a lot of problem.
In fact, ComfortDelgro bids for bus routes in London - which used to be nationalised.
Of course the Govt providing anything will cost money.
But let's not forget, the Govt running a few extra trains in exchange for all they ask us to sacrifice.
By working hard, putting up with high population, not buying cars, putting some people in power, putting up with their mistakes, we support national policy, national productivity, national profitability.
As for LHW cutting long distance services, it's a big ruling party practice to gloss over the truth as time goes by. Every history textbook edition, something new to say and something less to ever be mentioned again. The next revision will have something to do with Chinese history.
Why does she want to cut those for? If they are running, isn't the profit motive working?

They've purchased 21 new trains. 5 has arrived, likely set to join revenue service as the Jurong East 4th platform begins service next month.
The cut is just to signify going back to old days, more duplicating bus svs flooding the CBD area. Even MBT now providing smaller and smaller bus int, might as well go back to roadside bus interchange
Most ironic was MBT was e same person tat gave Singapore e proper bus interchange since 1980s. This is something history cannot be twisted.
Now bus driver has no proper breaks cos no place to park e bus, are suffering now. MBT should jolly well go to Boon Lay Int during e peak hours to see e mess he has created. Remembered he said "I cared for the SBS drivers"????
Tat's why when TCH says of PAP's past record. Touch their heart, they're now bringing us back to 1970s living standard.
They're rewinding e works of ministers like late Dr GKS.

It is no value for money for the commuters to keep paying rising cost and get lousy service.
Some months back she responded heartlessly to risk arising in cyclists cycling in pedestrian pathway. Claimed nothing can be done about it and ask both pedestrians and cyclists to tolerate each other. Pay her millions to shirk responsibility, shit! Like that anyone of us also can take over her and get paid million.
Wherever she is contesting, residents please vote her out.
Definately pap love her so much. She help pap to earn money. Err..govt.

So where do the drivers park now- or they drive non stop?
Think Clementi will go down the same path.

wait lor.. queue
sometimes 7 - 8 buses can be queueing... which is pretty bad cos it could block the bus parking exiting access bay.
They want buses to be more frequent yet they dun bother providing enough capacity anymore.
SBS's 2010 annual report has commented abt these newer bus interchange openly.
Like I've said e effects of the young govt policy makers. They could allocate land for bus int w/o even looking at the long term needs (Why I say tis is because during the construction Tuas developed, NTU's intake increased lots) and operational needs (bus freq resulting in no of buses in int at any time during e peak hrs).

Simple logical planning is not their forte.
Jurong's population vs EW line, how Marine Parade can get bypassed for MRT but places like Tai Seng, Dakota and Bartley get it. NUS and NTU could have had MRT if it were shifted mere meters but nooo....
I'm sure the Bangladeshi workers building these things would also know better.

Let me explain to wat I feel abt e MRT.
Marine Parade 1stly is only an Estate not a New Town. Back then in 1980s, $3bn on NSEWL was alrdy pretty costly (didn't go fully underground, it would have cost us more). Any case Marine Parade has semi express 36 to Suntec & Orchard.
CCL was more of an accidentally conceptalised MRT line to relieve e CBD MRT interchanges. Any case e CCL is only 3 carriage and the peak hr freq based on the no of trains procured, it could only maintain 5 - 7 mins peak hr freq.
NTU & NUS is pretty difficult to justify for MRT. Esp more of NTU. 1st thing uni academic term only takes up 1/2 of the calender days (Even extending MRT to Tuas more worth it as ppl do take it on weekends as they work at places like shipyard).
Furthermore SBS provides double decks to NTU, which can carry some 130 ppl with bus freq at around 2 mins per bus. An LRT can only carry 80 - 90 passengers at e same frequency.

True on NUS&NTU catchment but I wonder how so many CCL stations have less catchment than them. Vacant areas there may be developed later but I can't say the same of stations along the upcoming CCL4&5. What's up there?
I understand running any new line Eastwards between the EWL and the coast is impossible, but at very least Marine Parade deserves a dogleg of the CCL.
Also in the CBD, we have 4 lines and the newer ones have mostly had to go under streets to avoid existing buildings. Is it safe to say there will be no further lines into the CBD, anything new will connect to existing lines at interchanges?

Not so sure how the ERL would work out.
I dun think heart of CBD would get anymore MRT lines aft DTL
i am pretty sure i am paying alot for transport but i dun see the so called quality service

How can she compare to your knowledge of pubic transport?

QS is not up to the mark.
MRT as usual, jam like pack sardines during peak hours. Air con....I wonder whether they do service the air con or not.
Yes, transportation fares increases over the years.
e MRT maintenance is pretty bad these days. Macham no first/ last parade conducted.
Sometimes a train's PA system can go down for 2 weeks
