SINGAPORE: Heroin
with a street value of S$150,000 has been seized by the Central
Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in a 24-hour operation targeted at drug abusers.
At around 1.30pm on April 13, CNB arrested a 58-year-old Chinese Singaporean man in the Chai Chee area.
He was found with about 1 kilogramme of heroin with an estimated street value of S$150,000.
He was driving a black Honda Civic.
CNB officers, who were waiting in ambush, stopped his vehicle along Chai Chee Drive and arrested him.
CNB officers also seized S$3,900 from the car.
He will be investigated for drug trafficking and, if convicted, will face the death penalty.
During
the operation, which was conducted at various locations like HDB units
and other public areas, 80 suspected drug abusers and six drug
traffickers were arrested.
Of the 80 suspected drug abusers, 54 tested positive for controlled drugs.
Another 8.5 grammes of heroin, 8.9 grammes of Ice and nine Erimin-5 tablets were seized from the operation.
