PUBLIC unease about the influx of immigrants and foreign workers has led to policies checking their numbers here. However, without foreign workers, who is going to construct our houses, clear our rubbish and trim the grass in our housing estates, while we preoccupy ourselves with wealth building?
There are plenty of jobs available to Singaporeans at fair wages, if they wish to take them up.
I am from the service sector. For every job advertisement that we put up, only one or two out of 10 respondents will be a Singaporean. We will be lucky if any actually turn up for the interview. I remember a local respondent calling up to say that she was desperate for a job. Yet when I told her that we were located in the Bukit Timah area, she replied that it was too far and hung up. There are also those who do not wish to do shifts or work on weekends. Someone has to take over the jobs that we do not wish to do.
Immigrants inject fresh ideas and offer new skill sets. They also possess the drive and motivation to succeed. With increased globalisation, we need to embrace cultural diversity.
Unless we choose to accept slower growth and a lower standard of living, let's welcome the foreigners. Future generations will benefit from this policy.

Mr Kwok
There is a limit to growth on this island. Your business have to upgrade than relying on cheap import labours.
When that vegetable seller complained on TV that he could not get even elderly to help him to sell his vegetables, i felt like asking him what is he paying ? If he pays $600 and expect people to spend on transport to work 7 days early in the wee hours to sell vegetables, only the foreigner will do it.
$600 x 5 = $3000 RMB which many China Nationals can only dream about in their own country. Needless to say same goes for Bangadash and Indian labourers.
It's also how much is the Bosses paying to get Singaporeans to work for them?
Look pay us $1200 for a vegetable seller job and $10 per hour for Service F & B line, you will get locals to work hard for you.
But now the pay is still same like 10 years ago, $5 per hour in the service industry and about $800 for labour job.
Yet the daily expenses of bus-fare, food, utility expenses have increased.
The minimum wage is a good system to implement to help Singaporeans.
Not productivity that kind of useless theory. You pay a decent wage, there will be people willing to work for you. Period.

mr kwok. don't forget that these people will never put their heart and soul in the work. they only come here count days. month end take salary only. eventually they can still go back to their country. a dollar for many more dollars. while sgreans have to pay and pay for the ever increasing prive. we have no money changer to go change to a newer bigger singapore dollar. mr kwok - we are not saying no foreigners. but there has to be many people working on the ground to ensure bosses don;t over hire any tom with harry dick and flood our island creating many social, security problems. not to to say spoliing our market by marking down salaries to teh point where they can survive we cannot. really tehy can becaus ethey can go money changer and change money - we go ther echange what money? theeir money?

he have to be more innovative than just relying on cheap labour.
yes i referring to those real cheap ones. they come here and spoil the whole bloody amarket. now latest interview with howlian he already said he will not enforce groundwork and micromanagement on selection of such floor traps to work here. now that's even worse. sure thing i know what to do with my vote now. its my only and previous vote.
Just saw on TV that China average worker earns only $100 RMB per month , that is only $20 Singapore Dollars. Imagine they can earn $800 here. They just need to spend $500 and the rest send home...$300 x 5 = $1, 500 RMB. Die die also want to stay and work here.
You know when Singapore opens the floodgate for so many foreigners, the other countries are thankful to our Government for letting their poor citizens earn good money here, but Singaporeans suffer.
Poor Singaporeans can't go to Phillippines, Thailand, India, Bangadash, China to earn good money and send home to pay for bills. Their money not even enough to buy a good meal here.
There's a chinese saying take people fortune help people ward disaster if these people wants to be choosy when warding disaster then they have to look for other options.
problem is their nature are real greedy people and swauku people and they will think of ways to earn more than what they can here. just the other day i saw a young chap selling ice-cream. i had wanted to buy but used to be arh pek selling i know now the reason why so i turn away don;t buy. the open arse policy is really too much and they admit they not goin to micro manage.
You got it spot on. Many of these foreigners are greedy for money and Singaporeans pity them and treat them like Kings (too much human rights incalculated in us).
Some Singaporeans think that foreigners are pitiful and so should help them. They didn't know that the foreigners only want to enjoy what they can't enjoy back home.
I have seen how dumb Singaporeans stand up for foreigners instead of for Singaporeans.
Singaporeans is not united among ourselves but we will take care of foreigners. Stupid, isn't it ? The foreigners themselves only help their own countrymen.
