THE Singapore Medical Council (SMC) has suspended and fined a doctor over charges of professional misconduct.
General practitioner Khoo Buk Kwong, 50, was found guilty of failing to exercise due care in the management and treatment of 24 patients from 1999 to 2008, the SMC said in a statement yesterday.
The proceedings against Dr Khoo began after a complaint was filed against him by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Nov 5, 2008.
It had expressed concern over 'the prescribing practice of Dr Khoo with regard to hypnotics and codeine-containing cough mixtures', said the SMC in the statement.
Before his suspension, which began on April 2, he practised at Health-Plus Clinic at Block 307, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4.
This is the first time he has been convicted by the disciplinary committee of the SMC, which regulates the conduct of doctors here.
