SINGAPORE: Minister
in Charge of Ageing Issues Lim Boon Heng said Singapore has prepared
itself to take on the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities of
an ageing population.
Mr Lim said businesses can play a bigger role in delivering goods and services that seniors will demand.
He was speaking at the launch of the 50 plus Expo as part of the Annual Active Ageing Carnival.
Now
into its third year, the Expo organised by the Council for Third Age,
aims to create a market place for the silver industry and mature
consumers.
Stakeholders said the market is growing but often
under served. But this year, the event has managed to attract more than
120 exhibitors, among them are about 60 new exhibitors, to the Expo.
The exhibition features products tailored specifically for the silver segment in areas such as health, beauty and fitness.
It
also features the "My Life, My Home" Exhibition that comes in the form
of two showflats - equipped with the latest assistive devices and
practical solutions that can help older Singaporeans age comfortably and
independently within their own homes.
Mr Lim said: "As the
population ages, we do expect that more and more people will need help
in different aspects of everyday activities. But at the same time, they
will also be largely healthy and mobile, have discretionary income and
want to lead active lives. This represents possibly a huge opportunity
for businesses."
