Easing of rules on supervision helps address shortage
By Salma Khalik, Health CorrespondentTHE critical shortage of doctors here in the last few years has led to massive recruitment of foreign-trained doctors - and a headache in terms of supervision.Singapore requires all such doctors, no matter how experienced or qualified, to undergo a few years of supervision so they are 'broken into' practising under local conditions.
Those from India are horrendous. Cheap cheap but . . . . . .. . . The biggest hospital in Singapore was the first to take the initiative to employ them.
cheaper faster better..

My doctor is a foreigner too.
I'm quite sure there is a need to open up more uni space for the medicine school now. Can't rely on foreign doctors especially the ones from india and china.
Some foreign doctors are needed because they could verse in dialects.
But e way it's put is pwnzing e need to have local medical schools
So does that mean our doctors can't (converse) in local dialects?
This won't do. Either open up more space or set up medical schools. I think the unis here are just being choosy.

Duke medical school was started few years ago in Singapore. This allow working adults the chance to study medicine.
MOH is the one restricting the number of doctors. They set stingy and strict control quota for recruitment.

Ok I will ask my children to become a doctor one day, will tell them Spore shortage of local doctors.
Just look at low standard of the foreign doctors at the polyclinics now
and now the government is going to open the flood gate for more foreign doctors to
enter Singapore.
Will it be another case of the cheap import of low standard of "foreign talent"
again ?
I was at one of the KK hospital, a china doc examine my kid, my first impression, scuks! I dont understand his native chinese speaking, when asked him to translate simple english, this proud china doctor begain to talk about medical terms and told I also dont understand it.
