SINGAPORE: The price
of live chickens from Malaysia reached a 10-year high on Thursday, at
more than six ringgit per kilogramme, beating the 1999 record of more
than five ringgit per kilogramme.
With this, poultry sellers said the wholesale price of fresh chicken in Singapore rose 20 to 30 cents per kilo.
Stall owners at a Chinatown wet market have increased prices by about 50 cents a kilo to offset costs.
Prices at major supermarkets remain unchanged for now, but are expected to go up in a week.
The Poultry Merchants' Association said the increase is due to rising cost of grains and feed affecting farmers in Malaysia.
Poultry
Merchants' Association chairman Chew Ghim Bok said: "When the cost of
production goes up, the farmer tends to be more cautious and rear less.
And if you rear less, the supply will be short".

typical bullshit.....................
but as long as the ''chickens'' in Geylang don't increase price, people won't complain...........
talk cock.
even if cost of production goes up, as long as there is demand, production will not be affected.
in fact, if cost goes up, the farmers would have to sell more chickens in order to avoid a drop in income.
so, if production cost goes up-> farmers cut production of chickens -> farmers end up with less chickens to sell -> farmer income drop.
wheat comes from thailand or australia to feed chikens....fuel to transport n freeze them is from oil producing countries which have reduced oil due to civil wars there....so price increase is not un expected...so price of chicken rice will increase as well.
But our wage goes down and down. To save cost and enable companies to make more profits.
Meaning chicken rice will also increase.
Presently one packet of chicken rice or a plate is about $2.5 to $3.
Will it increase to $3 to $3.5?
Price increase will not decrease anymore.
