A SECURITY guard died tragically on his first day at work after being crushed by a one-tonne metal gate.
Mr Ong Yue Hing was closing the gate outside the North East Line Sengkang train depot when it fell suddenly, crushing his lower body.
He was pinned down by the metal gate, where he lay bleeding. He was pulled out about five minutes later when drivers passing by stopped their cars to go to his aid. Some lifted the gate while others tried to pull the 50-year-old out.
Speaking to Lianhe Wanbao newspaper, Mr Ong's son said it took 17 men to lift the 10m by 3m metal gate.
The guard was still conscious when he was taken to the Khoo Teck Puat hospital. He died of his injuries less than four hours after Tuesday's accident.
It is believed his pelvic bone, chest and organs were crushed by the impact. The police are investigating the case as an unnatural death.
RIP
Where is the safety procedure? Why gate get losse and crash down?
Safety management should bear the responsibility.
Never ensure the safety of its workers??
hope company got buy insurance for him....................
how did a gate that big and heavy fall on him in the first place?
That is one thing we will never ever find out because a partially civil organisation is involved.
Fated to die this way.
i wonder if he'll be compensated.
frankly, they better do.
He should be, its a good thing he was under the french company Alstom, and not SBST.
this is .....
as a security guard, not to be killed by people in an attact, and instead get killed by the gate which he is guarding.
the irony.
