I AM a frequent user of Jurong West Park Connector and the connecting neighbourhood park in Jurong West Street 62.
However, there are some smokers who treat the park as a smoking corner. The street soccer court, which is situated close to the running tracks, is of particular concern as teenagers would often smoke there while watching their friends play. Residents from the neighbouring blocks would also light up while cutting through the park to the bus stop.
I understand that the National Environment Agency has demarcated playgrounds and exercise areas as smoke-free zones, but such bans have not been strictly enforced.
The parks are great places for the elderly to take their grandchildren to play or stroll, and the young are particularly vulnerable to the ill effects of passive smoking. It seems counterproductive to develop these parks to enhance healthy lifestyles, yet expose users to harmful passive smoking.
I hope the relevant agencies would do more to ensure that parks remain smoke-free.

Good idea to impose such rules.
Also will be good if rules are implemented for smokers walkers. Pple really dont want to inahle the smoke they blow out.
Banning smoking in more places is really of no use. NEA doesn't seem to bother with the enforcement of no-smoking rules. They spend so much time catching litterers but don't bother about the smokers. They just need to send out their officers out for a day and they'd easily catch over a dozen smokers flouting the rules.
Yes, those smokers are cash cows.
Impose a fine on smokers walkers and per day, they can collect a good sum of money too. That money can help the poor or upgrade the park or facilities.
Shouldnt the authorities take note of this?
aiya these days everywhere e no smoking rule is like bo zheng hu again

It can be enforced.
You hire 2 park guards (24x7 aka 6-8 men force), fence the park, setup body check counter for tobacco and pyrotechnics.

I agree with Mr Yeo Zheng Hang and hope the relevant agencies would do more such as re-develop the surrounding environment to ensure there is 5km radius of non-vehicular zone to ensure noise and air pollution from vehicles cannot affect the park's users.
I also suggest to have natural predators in the park such as tigers, bears, snakes introduced to make the park more natural.
Good idea.

i suggest the author carry a tree with him everywhere to enjoy fresh air.
Every where pple smoke also dangerous.
At hdb void deck, you smoke also dnagerous, you throw the butt and caught fire how?
At outside school, you smoke while you walk, throw the butt and caught fire how?
So better impose fine not only at the park but smoker walkers too.
Pollute the clean air and make pple siam the smoker walkers too.

I prefer pple stop or sit and smoke rather than walk and smoke.
Many times, I walked pass many pple smoking and when you inhale the smoke, it kind of very uncomfortable.
