at stratosphere jet stream carrying radioactive particles travel at 200 kmh. Many up north will have fallout.

S'pore safe from Japan radiation fallout: expert

SINGAPORE : News of
radiation leaks from one of Japan's nuclear plants have sparked off
concerns among many netizens in Singapore.
Channel NewsAsia's Facebook page has also been receiving many responses.
Some
asked about the authenticity of a message claiming to be from BBC News,
which said "radiation may hit the Philippines" and "Asian countries
should take necessary precautions".
However, BBC has clarified that it did not send out the SMS alert.
Others like Annie Lee asked if the radiation spread will affect Singapore. And if so, then when?
Nuclear experts said Singapore is in no danger from a radiation fallout.
Dr
Benjamin Sovacool, assistant professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of
Public Policy, said: "Even if a worst case scenario were to happen, an
absolute nightmare, multiple reactors catch fire, they create a
radioactive particle cloud that is hazardous, it's not likely to come to
Singapore.
"The trade winds will most significantly blow it
into the ocean towards the United States. If somehow we are wrong, and
this radioactive cloud was to somehow defy the trade winds and come
straight to Singapore, we still have adequate warning to prepare, to
evacuate, to distribute preventative measures."

It's the same diplomacy saying: Dont Panic!

If it's really Don't Panic, I would love to see the policy people and the ruling people to be the last to evacuate after all of us have evacuated.

they are giving order for evacuation in Sao Paulo or Montevideo.

Affect us ? SIAO AH .
Japan like thousands of km away from us ley .
china, taiwan and the koreas should be worried, because they are nearer to Japan, isnt it.
if affect phillipines, then Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia would also be worried isnt it, use your backside to think lar.
chernobyl nuclear reactor waS UNSHIELDED...SO RADIOACTIVE DUST spread across europe easily.
japanese nuclear reactors are shielded n water is used to contain n cool radioactive particles. only japan would be contaminated ground water etc.
Heard that the wind blow the nuclear particle out of the ocean. So, it is ok for now. Right?

indeed... I didnt expect u to know the different between chernobyl unshielded reactor and japan's light water reactor...
Every countries are putting on hold for any nuclear plant. Look how scary when this incident happens. Dont take things for granted.

This is the correct representation on what happened in Chernobyl.

sigh, pretty difficult. as unless we stop using electricity and all things that involve it, human energy source(fossil fuels) is fast depleting, and causing global warming. start using clean energy(eg solar, wind, water) also not enuff for human now.
it's big Irony that Nuclear power is environmentally friendly and is the onli energy source that can produce enuff energy for human to go on with "modern" economic life...

if can go back to a "rural", non-technological form of life style, i don't mind.

The original SMS came from Phillipines.
Wear this, sure safe !!!

there's a million discrepancies about the warning esp the one about philipines and the warning claims to be from bbc but it still makes me worried
should i take any precautions? thanks!!
Yes you shold take precautions. Pack more maggie mee at home. CLose all your door and windows. Eat maggie mee everday and take 2 months unpay leave. I am very sure you will be safe. Switch on your aircon. If you scare. Wear the mok 5 suit. Wear a mask and change the cannister every 5 min. Pad yourself with powder. Lie flat on the ground everyday to prevent radiation passing through your body.
the reactor was designed by G.E. and has a fatal flaw.....................huge pools of water for cooling may blow up and throw up 9 times the radioactive material the Chernobyl explosion did...............
even if radiation come to S'pore...................you think PAP will tell you?
how they gonna evacuate the whole island?
the Lees and their cronies will leave the country 1st...................using a foreign visit as excuse to run away..................
