Ms Kelly Sng, 36, who made headlines in 2004 for opening a cafe selling Italian ice-cream, was found dead in her family’s Bukit Timah bungalow last Friday.
The young entrepreneur is believed to have bled to death after falling from her bed in the Oriole Crescent bungalow off Greenwood Avenue.
Police said a call was made at around 9:30 pm that day. Paramedics arrived at the house and pronounced her dead in her bedroom.
Ms Sng, who is believed to have worked as a teacher in recent years, was the daughter of the Orchard Road Business Association chairman, Mrs Sng Ngoi May. Mrs Sng is also the director of Orchard 290 — a subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings — which owns Paragon Shopping Centre.
According to Chinese evening newspaper Lianhe Wanbao, Ms Sng’s father got home around 9 pm on Friday evening and had to open her locked room door with a spare key as she did not respond to his calls. He discovered her on the floor beside her bed, lying face-up in a pool of blood.
Ms Sng graduated from the Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore in 1997. She then worked as a corporate lawyer for five years at law firm Wong Tan and Molly Lim.
In 2004, the then 29-year-old struck out with two friends to open the Estivo Gelateria cafe in Greenwood Avenue with a capital of S$200,000.
Mrs Sng told the paper that her daughter was physically fit and went to the gym to work out regularly.
The police have classified the case as an unnatural death, and investigations are ongoing.
