A RETIREE, who tried to evade a fine for littering, was hit with an even bigger penalty on Wednesday.
Chew Ban Lee pleaded guilty to using criminal force on an auxiliary police officer and was fined $1,000. This is in addition to the $300 fine he paid last year for littering.
The court heard that the 56-year-old was spotted by Certis Cisco officer Gooi Chong Haw throwing a cigarette butt on the floor of a hawker centre in Bukit Merah View at about 11am on Nov 7, 2009.
Approached for identification by the officer, who was then performing duties for the National Environment Agency, Chew claimed he was not carrying an identity card or any other form of identification and tried to walk away.
When Mr Gooi, 21, stood in his way, the retiree clenched his hands into fists and tried to push the younger man aside. Another officer then arrived and he was detained and police summoned.
Ha...serve him right.
Should fine him more!
